newbie crappie fisherman on Lake Norman needs help
Hey guys,
I'm new to crappies and my interest was sparked when a friend netted a 2 lb. crappie while casting for shad.
I'll be fishing Lake Norman mostly, near HWY 150, and close to some dams.
What brand jigs, colors are you guys using?
What structure should I be fishing around?
Should I fish them close to shore like summer bream fishing or should I be casting deep into open water?

Greetings, i only catch weeds.
Fishing during the daytime on Falls Lake I look for laydowns (trees that have fallen over and the trunk is still on shore) that are close to deep water and fish minnows and also jigs. My color of choice for the jig is Chartruce body with a orange tail.
I am sure you can find similar spots on Lake Norman...

Welcome...I fish Norman too...But I never go near 150...Too many big boats for me...I have caught alot of fish off of a small spoon tipped with a minnow or a crappie nibble....The crappie are biting now pretty good..You can find them in brush or around docks...I try to stay in deep water, and then fish at 8 to 15 foot deep...Luck to you, And maybe I'll see you on the lake...

I have only fished Lake Norman at night once. I need to ride around there during the day to look for brush piles and dropoffs for next year day and night. From what I've been told anywhere above 150 is the best bet somewhere in the state park area.
