Hello all, new user here. I went to Belews Lake last night for a couple of hours. It was cold and foggy as can be. I did find some crappie though off of a point near the Piney Bluff landing. I ended with 6 in the cooler, not a lot but worth going.
Welcome - what size did you catch - I live oly a few miles from Belews but can never find the crappies - I always hear about them but can't find them
with my mind on crappie and crappie on my mind -
and if ya'll see Goober later tellem I said duh huh - he'll know what ya mean!!!!!!!!
thanks-they were decent size I thought, from 10 to 13 inches. The fog was kind of bothersome since I am fairly new to the lake but the tree tops helped a lot. I live about 10 minutes from the lake so it is a nice short outing, hopefully I can keep finding 'em.
I didn't realize Belews had any crappie. I knew they had some fish with 3 eyes and a couple with legs cause of the power plant.
the selenium is not a problem anymore, they have been redirecting the water to the Dan River (on the notion it is someone elses problem now). The consumption advisory on eating fish at Belews was lifted in 2000. But yes, there are probably some three eyed fish still present.
cool nccrap maybe we can hook up sometime I am over in Danbury - might be after the 1st of the year but we will give it ago if yur willing
with my mind on crappie and crappie on my mind -

I grew up in Stokesdale and have fished that lake all my life. When they had the water problem the only place you could catch a crappie was above hwy. 158, and you could catch some nice ones too. As they started cleaning up the water we started to catch some fish in the clearer warmer water. Its been a long time now since I have fished the lake but I hear alot of good things about the bass fishing.
sounds good to me, pretty excited about my new boat so I'll be going year round. my folks live in Stokes, Dad works at HR park.
nccrap, did you find the fish to be suspended off the point or in laydowns on the bank? Did you happen to see what the water temp was?
Thanks
There was not much cover at all. Just suspended. I do not have a fish finder but I would guess the temp was in the 70's. I may go back Saturday night and see what I can find again. I have been thinking that the bridge would be a good spot with the rip-rap also.
Last Sunday I was there and you are right-it is a good place for Largemouth. I saw a couple of bruisers that had to be pushing 8-10 lbs.
