Thumbs up Maiden trip on the Eno 10/22

Me and Sprint275 made our maiden voyage to the Eno yesterday and faired pretty well. It is a beautiful place and we saw some deer and heard some turkey gobblin...put in on the red mill rd ramp around daybreak and fished until about 3 30.. caught about 50 and kept around 30 for the dinner table which i cleaned this afternoon.. most fish were around 9 inches with a nice 14 inch slab Sprint pulled on a jig... most fish were 6-8' in 12 - 15' of water. we found if we found laydowns that were almost vertical when they went in the water, they held bigger schools of fish.. we caught on everything we threw, jigs, minnows, crappie nibbles, and tipped jigs...heres a few pics and we will definitely be back..thanks to all who helped us not to go into this place blind...you guys are great and hopefully we can repay the favor if you decide to try one of our "home lakes"..

the 30 that i plan on releasing...into hot grease

what a haul, and i like your idea of "conservation"! i went out again yesterday 3:30-dark - fished from the bank again and found about 10 - only one hog though - caught em 5-6 ft deep in the middle of the channel i did notice that if i caught one in one spot i could catch more in that same spot, so thats what i did with one pole, and fished for other spots with the other pole - i know this is a stupid question (open for all to reply) but what exactly is a laydown? is it structure, brush, or where the floor rises up as you get near shore? or none of the above

    thanks folks!

I've always called a tree that was layed over in the water but still attached to the bank a laydown. Trees under the water that you can't see and have dozens of my crappie jigs attached to it is a d--m brushpile! Where the bottom changes depth suddenly is called a dropoff. You can catch lots of fish on the Eno if you troll along the dropoffs where the creek channels are. Good way to get hung up on those brushpile though. :D CK.

Just get him on, then we'll worry about getting him in!

we lost a few jigs and hooks, but we fish 12' b&m's and for the most part if i reel down the jig and push it gently with the rod tip, i can get it loose....another way to not lose too many jigs is to get some slack in your line and troll to the backside of where you are hung...alot of times a quick pull in the opposite direction of the hang up will get that jig off. crappiekrazy has the definitions of laydowns along the same lines as i would describe them slabsport.

now that got a good laugh...sprint, is there something you failed to tell me concerning your occupation?? lol actually sprint is not Donald Rumsfeld, he is my dad and my best fishin partner. He has taught me alot over the years about everything from bass to crappie to bream. I think the shoe is on the other foot now. My fishing skills have surpassed him and he is learning more than teaching. lol He is a good man and if you see him out in a blue and grey Sprint fish and ski with a 115 Mercury give him a holler..
