    Default Roanoke Stripers

Well, I finally made it down to Jamesville for a few days of Rockfishing. We didn't do as good as people were doing last week but we managed to catch a few. We only ended up with 1 keeper that was 21 inches. Caught one that was in the slot and had to throw back and one that was a half inch too short. Even though the rockfish weren't biting we worked on the catfish pretty good. We did have a better trip than I thought we would have considering the water conditions.....muddy, SWIFT current, and where the river was wide, the current was better, but we had 1.5-3 ft swells. I may try Weldon first of next week. Here's a picture of our 1 keeper rockfish, some of our cats, and some white perch that a guy gave us.

FISH FRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Looks like ya had a fun trip. If you are like me, you fish when you can, not when conditions are perfect. Way to make the best of bad conditions.

Great report! Thanks for sharing. That's a lot of meat!

Just get him on, then we'll worry about getting him in!

Yeah that surge can get tough when the wind runs against the current like that.. BUT you got some good fish though!

Thanks for the replies everyone. Our rockfishing trip quickly became a catfishing trip but I was fine with that, atleast something was biting, and they'll be just fine in some hot grease!

Gosh, that brings back so many memories. I used to fish for cats from Williamston all the way past the bridge in Plymouth. They are great to fry up. We used to go down and bring back enough to fillet for all of the members of my Masonic Lodge. My largest, a 38 lber came near the remains of an old partially sunken tug boat near what we called the "mud flats" below Jamesville. I hope you enjoy every one of those fish. It makes my mouth water thinking about them.
