Now i know that was a blast catching all those, especially in a kayak. bet those cats pulled you all over the lake.
Sorry I haven't posted in a while guys but the site logged me out and I was too lazy to look up what it was.banghead
I got into an area full of small white perch last week right before I had to leave, so I decided to go back and today and try to find them again.
Longing lining crappie jigs in 3-6 FOW did the trick today. Caught pretty even numbers on chartruese homemade jigs and luma glow gulp.
19 by my count, too small to mess with cleaning them, but they are out of the lake freeing up resources for the crappie. These guys are in my freezer right now, and will be planted under my tomato and pepper plants in a few days. Slow release organic fertilizer at its best.
Every once in a while there were some blow ups on topwater. I was in the right place at the right time once. Hooked this one on a suspending jerkbait.
I also caught 3 crappie, one of which would have been enough to keep but turned it loose. The sunfish were shallow too. Caught probably 5-6 shellcrackers and 7-8 bluegills.
Other than that just some "by-catch"
Pretty good sport on a crappie rod.
The bigger one is my biggest channel cat ever. I didn't get a length or weight, but I feel safe in saying it was over 10lbs, so that makes it a citation fish. If anyone has any guesses on the weight I'd be interested (even if you think it was under 10).
Thanks for reading.

awsome job fishjunky!
i think its safe to say that cats well over 10. if you wanna catch some 15+ ones in cary shoot me a pm on nca id be glad to show you where :D
Very nice work there fishjunky. You know just how to get to me by posting those pictures of the dead white perch... VERY NICE AND GOOD FERTILIZER INDEED!!!
I imagine longline trolling brings on a whole new dimension of difficulty pedaling that kayak doesn't it? I would have loved to see you working those big cats from
that kayak... I'm sure that was great fun. I love catching big fish too... and that feeling you get when they are making a run and peeling drag... wondering if you
are going to be able to stop 'em or wear 'em down on the light tackle before they spool you or break you off.
I hope you are planning to make it to the Jordan Lake Social on April 14th. I promise you... it will be a great time for all.
Thanks for sharing your day with us. Good luck to you.

Now that's a variety! Sounds like you had a fun day. Thanks for the report and pictures and congrats on the catch.![]()
Thanks Wayne. I was only running two rods so it wasn't too bad. I missed a WHOLE BUNCH of strikes... probably bluegills I suppose because the short strikes tapered off once I changed from a 2" curly tail grub to a 1" straight tail.
The smaller was a long fight but it was "organized" since my other rod just happened to be reeled in when he bit. The bigger one though, woo boy he made a mess. The other line was way out and I got spun around at least twice so I had line snagged on deck rigging, rod holders, cooler, lifejacket and everything else.
I will definitely write the date down and try to make it to the social thank for the reminding me.
Thanks gabowman. I like fishing for crappie because pretty much everything that swims will eat something that looks like a small minnow.... you never know what you will reel in.
Great report and pictures! Those big cats are fun on ultralight tackle!
Just get him on, then we'll worry about getting him in!
thanks for the report, sounds like a great time on the water.
