    Default Steelies in Washington

I have been in Washington for the past month so I have missed the spawn but I haven't bee idle. I went steel head salmon fishing last weekend and the picture shows the results. I caught two of the steelies pictured with one of them being my first ever. While you guys are already enjoying nice weather, the pattern here in Washington is rain and chilly temperatures (30's to low 50's) with an occasional break for a sunny day. I'm on my way back to NC next week. Hopefully I will get on the lakes pretty quickly after I return.

That brings back some memories. I grew up in Joyce just out from Port Angeles on the Olympic Penn. Steelhead are actually an anadromous rainbow trout. What river did you fish?

Nice! I caught my first steelhead last fall in OH (ODNR stocks eastern OH L. Erie Tribs). It was only 22" and a couple of pounds but it pulled line off my reel like nothing else I have ever caught. I had another one on that day but it jumped and snapped the line. I swear that one had to have been around 30". Were you guys fly fishing or drifting floats?

@Woody These fish were taken from the Skookumchuck River close to Tenio.

@red95gtcoupe These fish were caught by "flossing" them. That is a technique that uses a long leader that you drift in the hopes that the leader will get into their mouth while they are swimming. This technique works great when there are a lot of fish in the river.
