    Default Crappie In Jordan

Just retired and getting a late start learning to crappie fish. Got a new to me boat and will probably start out fishing Jordan. I know it is too hot for good fishing but cant wait to get a minnow in the water. Going away for Labor Day so will probably be a week after Labor Day when I get to go. I dont know the lake but will try to find a map of lake showing chanels. Any suggestions appreciated. Dont expect you to give me your "honey holes" but maybe tips such as best dock to put in at for deep water fishing, best bait, size hook, best time of day (not ready to try night fishing yet). Just any tips for a beginner will be appreciated. Boat is a white 18' Palm Beach with 90HP Suzuki 4 stroke. Dont have a trolling motor yet. How importrant is it to have one and how do you determine if mounted to bow or transom is best. Also, do I really need a GPS? I knopw this is a lot of questions, but I have never done any crappie fishing and will really appreciate any tips. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Enjoy reading all the posts!!!!

Holler at me if you want to try night fishing. I'll take you in my boat and show you how we do it. I'm a newbie too but got lots of help from the folks on this site. I would be glad to pay it forward.

Hook up with Monk Wilson - he can help you get started with everything else. Monk's Crappie

Good luck and welcome aboard. Don't be bashful about asking - that's how you learn.

    Default Weekend after Laborday

We are making a trip the weekend after Labor Day. I think MCF is planning on going as well. I typically fish Shearon Harris. You are more than welcome to come fish with us. I plan on getting to the Wake County dock about an hour before dark. If you need a light you can borrow one of mine.

Let me know if you are interested.

    Thanks!

    Darin

looks like ya got several willing tutors, monk is a good source of info, at times to good:D. if you are content to anchor then fine but personally i wouldn't leave the house without a bow mounted trolling motor, a gps is not a necessity, and i would stick with your larger hooks sizes on jordan. i would definetly look at riggin your boat up with some good adjustable rod holders and of course and small army of rods to put in them, i'm a fan of southern crappie rods, but to each his own, they are made of carbon and kevlar, you get the strenght without the wieght, they aren't as fragile as graphite rods like b-n-m, or wally marshalls and cost less to.

I definitely agree with gobbler about the front trolling motor. I don't have one yet and puts me at a major disadvantage for Jordan. I've been able to catch some decent amounts of crappie, but it sure makes things a lot more difficult. Take a drive over to Liberty and meet Monk at his house. He can do a show and tell that is well worth the time. Bring along some money to purchase some of the necessary jigs and rod/reel combo's if you need them.
