Default Freshwater trolling motor in saltwater

Hey--need a little advice. I'm saving up for a nice Riptide, but probably will not have the money until the Fall. I'm going to the beach a couple of times this summer and would like to do some trolling. Do any of you use your freshwater trolling motors in the saltwater? I've read where guys use their freshwater on a limited basis in saltwater and have had no problem. My MinnKota is already ten years old, but I would like to get a few more months use out of it. What's your advice?

I do it, and I put the foot pedal in a bag if any wind is blowing. the salt in my opionion will shorten the pedal life. I recommend you can get a zinc anode and bolt to the shaft. It prevents the galvonic action inside the motor. Our local propeller shop has them for about $20. I also silicone up my unit first the motor and shaft, silicone spray. And of course, do a good rinse after every use, of the entire boat. So far mine has done fine with no issues.
