    Default Boating Etiquette

I was reading the post concerning the stripper fishing on Norman an one comment that struck a chord about the high powered Rangers and the Rowland Martin wanabe's.

I myself have had the pleasure of having my fishing ruined because they can't slow down when passing by, I realize they pay the same fees I do to be on the lake but who are they trying to impress??

Some people need to take some boating classes also and learn the rules of the road also. I fished and worked on boats in the Chesapeake Bay and I am amazed at how people run around the lake. I only have a 16 ft boat but it just knaws me when people running wide open throwing up a big wave and wave at you as they are going by. I don't want to get started on ramp etiquette.

i agree with ya joe, but any more you have that kind of activity on the road, eating joints, wallyworld, hello even had it on the beach at hatteras. this "its all about me" crap boils down to one thing. no respect.

It seems like the disrespect started with the elimination of discipline at home. Just the fear of a spanking used to build a lot of character.

I agree to the lack of respect in everyday life it seems like it's all about me these days. I had the same experiences when I fished small water supply lakes in the Norfolk area people were courteous until the bass clubbers came along, they tied up the ramps and would just blow by and create a tidal wave while I was fishing a bank.

I honestly prefer boats to blow by me on full plane and get out of the area quicker. They make a smaller wake on full plane. A lot of boats will slow down but not slow enough to create "no wake" and they actually create a much LARGER wake going 10-15 mph than they do at 60+ mph. They think they are being couteous but they're actually making it worse.
The ski boaters and wake board boats bother me 100 times more than the bass anglers---and they will usually get closer too. I've had the skier come within 20 ft of me, although the boat was much farther away.

I also saw a couple of boats come rolling thru the Farrington bridge NO WAKE ZONE last month when there were boats all over the place. I was just happy they didn't run into me or anybody else in the crowd--and they were crappie anglers. They weren't young whipper snappers either, more likely suffering from alzheimers.

So lack of courtesy goes all ways, young and old, bass and crappie, northerner and southerner, etc.

I think its more just a lack of common sense. Or maybe just plain ole stupidity.

    Thanks for your service Joe.

As you know, most of my fishing is from the banks of shearon harris and jordan.one nite while i was fishing the riprap at jordan, these so called fisherman were fishing under the bridge at farrington.as i was watching to see what they were catching, i noticed that one of the guys in the boat had kept telling his buddy that i was catching some nice fish where i was throwing too.they were only about 30yds from me to begin with. after about an hour of watching me put fish after fish in the bucket, they untied from the bridge and got between me and where i was throwing! what asses! didn't stop me from throwing around their boat.after pulling two slabs from beside their boat, these guys had the nerve to ask me how deep and what was i using for bait! i lied! i told them earthworms and crickets seem to out fish the minnows and i was fishin near the bottom.seen them catch a few nice ones but not like the 5fish to their 1 that i was catching.HOPE NONE OF YOU GUYS ON HERE WERE THERE THAT NITE BUT IF YOU WERE, THAT AIN'T RIGHT!!!!MY THING IS IF YOU WANT TO FISH ON THE BANK, GET ON THE BANK AND DON'T TRY TO RUN US BANK FISHERMEN OFF OUR SPOTS!i never did that when i had my boat. i would always respect the other boaters as well as the bankfishermen!
GET IN, SIT DOWN, HOLD ON, AND BE VEWY VEWY QUITE!!!!!
