    Default Caught a few...not crappie

Hawksbigal, mudman, & myself went to Mitchell River trout fishing today. Got there & started fishing just as it was getting light & a cool 27 degrees. First hole only gave up a couple of small ones. Found them in the next hole & they were pounding a rooster tail. Between the three of us we caught 50-60 by 10 o'clock, mostly rainbows with a couple of browns & brookies. After the sun got up pretty good they wouldn't hit anything. The water was so clear you could see sometimes 3 or 4 follow it right up to you then just turn away. Delayed Harvest stream so all were released to fight again, or end up as dinner for some poacher.

We had a little visitor. Followed us all the way back to the truck where she shared some snacks with us, banana, nabs & brownies. Came from the road on the left, must have been someone's pet.

Simple, where we go is in Surry Co. close to Dobson. There isn't a church close, mostly farmland & just a few houses. Never had any problem with the landowners. We have only been fishing there for 6 or 7 years & it has been delayed harvest at least that long. We used to trout fish a lot in VA & I started looking for a place closer to home & found that. I keep saying I'm going to check out the streams in Stone Mt. State Park but haven't done it yet.

Hawk, that jarred some really good memories, fishing on the Mitchell River with my grandpa and uncle when we lived in Dobson many years ago. I still remember sitting on those rocks at the "Pit Falls" fishing with worms we dug out of the yard, catching horneyheads and redeyes. Thanks for the memory and a great report.
