    Default replacing an impeller

I have a 9.9 Yamaha that needs the impeller replaced. Is this something that can be done done if I have reasonable mechanical abilities?

Joe , youv'e got 4 or 5 bolts for the lower unit and the whole thing just drops down. I got an exploded diagram from Yamaha on-line. That was all I needed. Good luck.

    Default impeller

Just be sure that if your motor uses a shift shaft to shift with that you don't move it when you drop the lower unit down. If it has linkage, then it's not as bad, but it's a pretty straight forward job to do. replace the bottom plate and housing if they look worn, but I have reused mine twice already, just swapped out impellers.

I agree with Nat, but my ride only sees freswater, so I don't worry with it unless it's worn, but with salt and sand, it's gonna' be. The best thing to do is just buy the kit with it all in there, that way you know you know what yougot when you do it!

    Thumbs up

I ordered a water pump rebuild kit, should be here Friday. The shop wanted $200 to do the work parts and labor I know I'll do the work. The kit was $48 a bit high I thought but what are you going to do.

I did find thought that the pee hole was clogged with dirt but don't remember being in shallow water the last time out.

I read somewhere that labor was about $80 dollars an hour sounds like that is the line of work I need to be in.

    Thanks all for your comments.

    Default impeller

I don't think that's too high for the whole kit. I've only eve bought the impeller for mine because they never had the whole kit, but I think next time I'll do the whole thing since that bottom plate has seen three impellers now. I can do mine in about 20 min. now. Let us know how it turns out Joe!
