Gil let me tell ya, it aint easy. I bought my boat 3 years ago from a guy who said he bought it from a wildlife auction. In other words the boat and trailer were confiscated(for illegal use) by a game warden. I didn't need a title for the boat at that time but he didn't have one for the trailer either. I almost didn't buy the boat but I figured I could file for a lost title and that would be it. WRONG. After you file for a lost title (which you have to do if you were to say build a trailer or buy a trailer that didn't have a title) I had to take the trailer to 3 trailer manufactures and get a estimate on what it was worth (for tax purposes) then send in a request to the DMV for a title at which point they have to send out an inspector to look at your trailer and make sure it is road worthy.Oh and he was a real pleasant fellow to talk too. 16 Phone calls and 2 months later they finally agreed to give me a title. Many times I thought about just taking the one off my utility trailer and saying the heck with it. Good luck, It takes some patience and some lip biting ( there were many phone calls when I wanted to tell someone at the DMV how stupid they were being about a boat trailer tag ) but you can get a title if you don't mind the bulls#*t

Just get him on, then we'll worry about getting him in!

Oh yeah I had to have one of those too! Tony do you mean you didn't have a title for the trailer? Man they would not sell me a tag without the title and the bill of sale, both of which had to be signed by a notary.

Gilby, it ain't easy....you will have to bond that boat....and trailer most likely if the title is from out of state. If its in state, its hard also...if my recollection is correct you have to have inspections done for tax value so you can pay the correct use taxes. Its a hassle buddy...and you might want to be a little suspicious as to why they don't have a title.

Did the owner lose the title or never had one? If he has had one & will work with you on it he can file for a lost title & maybe make it a lot easier. When I sold a boat trailer a few months ago I couldn't find the title. Got a form from the local license plate agency & had it notarized when I transferred ownership.
