Default New to it all at Jordan Lake

Hello Everyone,
Just moved to Chapel Hill in Febuary I am so out of my element as far as outdoors. I really have not met many people that fish Jordan lake. I went a couple times in March and fished from the banks it was so low I did not have any success. Well, I JUST BOUGHT A BOAT TO GET DEEPER. Now I am stuck I don't know a thing about the lake. I have never been out in the open water. I know everyone has there secret spots but I am sure there a few location people could share that I can drowned a few minnows this fall. Any techniques people can share for fishing from a boat for the oh so famous Jordan Crappie I have never caught. If someone would be willing to meet up with me one weekend that would be even more amazing. Thank you to all you loyal crappie fisherman. By the way this is a great site.

Tripp

when fishing the bridges how do you do it? Rig a minnow with a split shot and let it sink to the bottom? I am really new to it all. Please help!!!

Hi and Welcome Tripp!

Jordan is a big lake with lots of spots that are good to try. For immediate gratification, you might try the bridges at night. Sink a little submersible about a foot and tightline your minnow down below. It takes a little time to find the right depth sometimes. I usually start about 12' down.
With the water this warm, they usually aren't on the bottom.
I fish the Ebeneezer bridge often and have decent luck there most times.

Lots of folks daytime fish up around the 64 bridge. Watch the boats, observe what they are doing. You'll catch on!

I work on the weekends and stay clear of the lake then. But, if you are ever out during the week and see an ole fat lady in a jon boat, holler. If I'm on 'em, I'll share.

Oh and yes, especially at night. I'll just use a hook (1/0 aberdeen) a split shot and a minner. Sometimes a bobber (thill style)

If you use the search feature of the site you can target specific info that you want to know that has been discussed in the past on the site. It is a great way to learn some things about the lake you want to fish. Im sure lots of folks will chime in on Jordan though. Many fish it and the time is getting close that the crappie fishing will be real good. So stay tuned.
