I am sure they have better lures out now...but way back when I used to wear out the trout streams...I always used the smallest Rooster Tail or Panter Martin and clipped two of the treble hooks off.

Default trout ?

Looks like I'm gonna have to take Chugbug back to the deep water & remind him what Crappie look like. He's trying to turn this site into trout.com !
I broke him from green carp & now he's strayed into minnow fishing !

Hey I just had an idea. Has anyone used one of the Joe's Flys when the crappie are up shallow in the spring? They might make a great springtime bait...? Good luck knappy if you go. And poppop I still like a Roostertail too. And Skeeterguy you started all this by breaking me from the green carp circuit....You know that I will be back on the "deep water" when those slabs come back up shallow for the fall bite. It's only a week or two away if we keep having these cooler nights. Oh yeah, I do take my crappie jigs with me to the trout streams, but I haven't gotten confident enough to try one yet.
