We drifted toward the dam and the time between 7PM and just after 8PM saw the dam area light up with boats.....it was like honey bees to the hive. By the time we drifted in the midst of them; there had to be 12-15 boats scattered here and there but keeping the dam in sight as they moved about with huge sodium lights powered by generators. I told Mr. Wyatt that we had somehow gotten lost and wound up at Murray....except for the nuclear plant the scene was the same as Murray.....we began to power about with the trolling motor keeping the pace at about .50 to .75 mph on the GPS tracker. Picked up our first striper, a nice 22 incher. Kept the bait in the water and trollled with the green hydralight on the side with barely a ripple as the boat glided softly on the flat surface of the lake...the moon made the trip. About three quarters full and misty...the snoopy caught 7 stripers and 7 blue catfish all toll. We ran out of bait at about 3 AM and headed home. The last striper which would have been our liimit was on the line four different times but either broke the line or swirled right at the fish net as it said adios to the netter.....Norman did not disappoint however, what a great night to there. I know now that ever trip in the future will be judged against this first night on Norman....... Pete's home lake.....I posted couple photos . Note the snoopy decal so anyone who wants can slide up to ole snoopy and share the fish stories is welcome...............I get my SC Crappie.com decal this week which I will stick beside snoopy....oh yeah, the catfish all went back...we checked them and had just over 55 lbs of catfish..the stripers were two 22 inchers, three 21 inchers and two 20's or a bit under. ....I posted on SC board too but since I was fishing in NC I posted here too...hope no one minds....iamfishing

congrats on finally getting a load in the boat! told ya it wouldnt disapoint! What sucks about Norman is that its a pattern lake. if you figure the pattern out, you can mop up on striper.

I hope we can figure it out. I sold my bass boat three years ago to buy a striper boat and striper fish exclusively. I have tried Hickory, Clarks Hill, Murray, Wateree and now Norman. Of all the lakes I have fished, Murray is the easiest. It's also a pattern lake. If I get Norman figured out its so much closer. Only thing that spooks me about Norman is the shoals and shallow water. To be a big lake its got a lot of hazards in it. When the fog rolled in last night the GPS was a time saver in getting back to the landing. All in all I liked the experience and Mr. Wyatt who has fished Murray for couple decades really liked it too. He invited me to go back next week in his boat so maybe we can keep learning.
shoals really arnt that big of a problem. there is a set in ramsey creek, and a set at the main lake there near betties ford landing....if you go further north and not used to the lake, it may be tricky. of all the creeks to watch out for, be careful in Davidson creek. i got my boat packed up...i "might" be hitting norman 2nite.

i ended up limiting out last night by 10:00. at 1 point i tripled up, and got all 3 in the boat, then got a 4th later. all fish caught on small threadfins i netted.
no pictures...fish went from 19-22ish inches. nothing too big.
