caught on a 1/16oz Chartreuse Roadrunner ... ultralight spinning rod/plastic spinning reel/4lb test BPS Excel mono ... 32.5in in length / 12lbs Tiger Muskie
Green River Lake, Ky 4/20/85
cost me $125 to have mounted
Talk about a discount on a mount!!!! All the places around here get minimum of $10/inch for fish - My wife's 34" Northern is at the shop now - $360 after adding the state's tax!
Nice fish though, and looks like you have an excellent taxidermist.

but, it really wasn't so much a "discount" .... it WAS 1985 dollars, remember (and I probably spent a whole paycheck to have it mounted )
Not sure what it would cost to have mounted, these days ... but, probably at least 3 times as much, minimum !!
Yes, Gunner's Taxidermy is a award winning business. There's big contests amongst a lot of the taxidermy businesses ... and Gunner's has faired well in them (at least, they "have" in the past ... haven't had a fish mounted in a long time, so I haven't kept up with them)
I think they did a great job on it ... and it still looks like it just came from the shop. No fading of color, & no deterioration of fins or skin !!
... cp
ps - sorry it took me so long to respond I just haven't looked in on this forum in awhile

(put this in here primarily to get rid of the spam title on this forum's intro ... and still stay "on topic" )
OK, yeah ... I'm braggin a little, too ... LOL!! The fish cut a hole in the net, which I had to replace ... totally destroyed the reel (it fell apart shortly afterwards) ... and cost me $125 to have mounted
I've caught several Silver Muskie, while Bass or Crappie fishing at Cave Run Lake, but none were of legal size. I would have returned them, even if they were. This is the only Muskie I've ever caught from Green River Lake, and only kept it because it was my first Muskie .. and because I caught it on UL equipment. ......... cp
kinda robbing the cradle on that muskie huh,i a pretty sure that isnt of legal size and if it is they need to raise the size to 46or 48. sorry i didnt mean to be a a--h---

I don't consider you an AH for questioning the legality of this catch. But, just FYI ... the legal size limit on Muskie in KY is 30 inches. I'm not a Muskie angler, so I have no dog in that fight (higher legal length limit). Also, this fish was a hatchery raised Tiger Muskie (hybrid) verified by the KDFWR. These fish are placed in only a few KY reservoirs, for the sole purpose of "put and take" (they put, anglers take). The Silver Muskie, that we have in our waters, is the one that's more sought after, and prized. And, though I'm sure that the true Muskie anglers of this state (and those that come from out of state in pursuit of them), would prefer the length limit be raised ... I don't think our state can produce viable numbers of a higher length.
On another note - (following that particular catch) I've caught and released several Silver Muskie, caught while pursuing Bass/Crappie. And, had it not been for the fact that I caught "this" fish on such flimsy equipment, it being of legal size, and my first .. I'd have released it, too.

well first of all its a tiger not a pure muskie and they dont get as big. 2nd tigers are stocked so its not like it was a spawner.
