Default Fish Finder on Pontoon Questions

I posted this on the electronics page, but wanted to ask here today because our MO page is so good....

Who has mounted a fish finder on the front of a pontoon?...

We are getting a G3 Suncatcher V322 FC with 2 fishing seats up front. I believe it has a basic electronics device at the helm, but I'd like to add a better finder up front.

    Questions:

Any recommendations on brand/model? I don't need a flat screen TV up there - we just fish for fun, not competition

Can we mount the transducer up front or does it need to go to back?
With that - do they all have to have a transducer and do they come with one when you buy the unit?

Was thinking about getting something where I can put the transducer on the trolling motor and keep everything up front - is that an option?

I think that's it - I'm a newbie with boat ownership and electronics - so any help/advice is much appreciated!!

There are so many options. There are several mounts you can buy for the screen itself (ram mount is a good one). As for the transducer, it depends on what you want to do with it. If you just want 2D, many trolling motors now adays have built in US (universal sonar) for 2D. Anything other than 2D, most guys will mount the transducer to the bottom of the trolling motor. Like I said it just depends on what you want up front. Myself, I just run GPS and 2D up front. A lot of people like having DI (down imaging) and/or SI (Side imaging) up front thought also. Its all just whatever you want to do/want to spend.

I fish from a pontoon and have the (once use to be) high end electronics with two transducers and a 360 all mounted on a terrova trolling motor but I enjoy the electronics as much as I do catching fish. I like having everything mounted up front where I spend all my fishing time.
I like Humminbird because of the options and networking with other units.
I have a 1198 and Onix mounted up front and a 798 mounted at the console and wouldn't change anything if I had it to do over.
I will suggest go as big as you can and you want be sorry.

Not all locators come with a transducer. Some you must buy it separate. If you have a trolling motor mount the transducer on it.
I use these transducer mounts on mine - https://www.transducershieldandsaver.com/
My Bennington has a transducer mount welded on the rear of the left pontoon log. The Garmin that came on it on the console has the transducer mounted there.
I'll smoke just about anything (in my smoker)
The fishing is always great. The catching varies.

Type of trolling motor you buy may influence the type of sonar. I do not know if you have a remote controlled tm it will break your transducer cable if not mounted properly. And some you cannot mount a ducer on them at all.

why I love this site so much, exact questions I have about my pontoon, lowes 21 foot set up for fishing with two fishing seats front and back. Transducer mounted on only place on back that made sense is between ladder and Hate having it there. great idea to mount new lowrance si on front to fish with and keep 3x on console for navigating and general. not sure if bigger transducer with lowrance would fit on TM but will look at it. Thanks for the suggestions CDC guys are the best!

A Pontoon for fishing --- the wind blows them bad -- a 12 volt is too small to pull one effectively -- Now it depends on the size you are looking at 24 0r 36 Volts to pull the monster ... A Ram mount - several types brings the Screen closer for easier to see the Screen and take the Sonar off when not in use
