    Default Cardinal Announcers

Ok is it me or is Rooney just a horrible announcer. His play by play is okay but I am so sick of hearing him cry about the umpires, length of the game, check swing calls...etc. I have not listened to one game where he doesn't complain about the umpires. I mean they are professional umpires so are they really that bad. I umpired high school baseball for ten years and it's not easy. If you want to piss and moan then why don't you just let K-Zone call balls and stikes and keep an umpire at home plate for out/safe calls. The other night Jim Joyce (a seasoned vet) was apparently having a bad night behind the plate by Rooney standards and he was whining starting at the second freaking hitter. I really struggle listening to a game on the radio. I did like Shannon but Rooney has rubbed off on him and he complains every game also. There is a time and place to complain but Rooney has taken it overboard WAAYYYY OVERBOARD and it's ridiculous. And I almost don't want the Cardinals to hit a home run so I don't have to listen to the most annoying home run call ever "It's a Gonner." Give me McLaughlin and Hrabosky they are pros, not Jack Buck, but very good.

I will have to disagree a little bit although being from KC, it's hard to follow the Cardinals as close as I would like. I happen to be a Royals fan who has the Cards as my favorite NL team. As far as home run calls, the two I find most annoying have to Ken Harrelson with "you can put it on the board..... Yes" and even worse is the announcer for the Yankees. If I had to listen to that I would have to listen to the away broadcast. I do agree with negative announcers. How can we complain when we have two teams playing such great ball as the Cards and Royals. All in all, what a great year to be a baseball fan from the Midwest. The NL central is just crazy this year and now you have the two Texas teams in the mix. If you ask me it's a great season so far.
God bless Charlie Brewer and Bobby Garland.

I will say that Rex Hudler is the exact opposite of how you describe Rooney. He never says much of anything negative. Still many don't like him. I will say he grew on me at least.

Huddler is like Hrabosky. Very postive and knows when to make a complaint bc they played the game and know that human error is everywhere. If you cry about people making mistakes (or at least think they are making mistakes) you will spend the whole game complaining. I have actually listened to the game and heard Rooney sucking his thumb, remembered the times he was complaining which is about the whole game, and gone back and watched the reply late at night. You don't hear the TV announcers making near as many comments about the umpires.

When you hear him talk about his son ant the work he and his wife do with Downs Syndrome you see a lot of why he like he is. He's a bit goofy but I for one really like him.

Good article in Sunday KC Star on Hud. He is what he is.

    What's a Cardinal???????

(I'm an ol' Springfield boy transplanted to KC area by way of Minneapolis. Springfield has ALWAYS been Cardinal town, more so now. I like the Cards and the Twins also))
