    Default Persimmons Fact Or Fiction?

Ok I Am Getting Reports That The Persimmons Have Shovels In Their Seeds! I Have Not Personally Checked Any Persimmons At The Farm But I Plan On Doing It Next Week When I Am Up There. Has Anyone Else Checked The Seeds?

I Have Always Been Told That If There Is Shovels In The Persimmon Seeds It Is A Sign That It Is Going To Be A Bad Winter With Lots Of Snow.

I have also heard that same saying about persimmons, but i never put a lot of stock in it,hard to believe a persimmon can tell you what kind of winter your going to have. The weather people can't even do that.

GRANTED I AGREE WITH YOU! BUT I DO RESPECT MY ELDERS! AS STUPID AS IT SOUNDS MY GRAND DADS WOULDN'T CUT THEIR BULL CALVES OR DEHORN IF THE SIGN WASN'T RIGHT. I KNOW MY DAD AND I HAVE BRANDED, CUT AND DEHORNED CALVES WHEN THE SIGN WASN'T RIGHT AND THE CALVES HAD LARGER BLOOD LOSSES. THEN WE HAVE DONE THE SAME THING WHEN THE SIGN WAS RIGHT AND THE CALVES WOULDN'T BLEED AT ALL.

AND NOW THAT MY DAD IS OLDER, MOM AND HIM WON'T WEAN CALVES UNLESS THE SIGN IS RIGHT! CRAZY AS IT SOUNDS THEY WEAN ARE CALVES AND THEY DON'T RUN THE FENCES THEY JUST GO STRAIGHT TO THE FEED AND THEY DON'T LOOSE MUCH WEIGHT. THEY TRIED ONE BUNCH WHEN THE SIGN WASN'T RIGHT AND THEY RAN THE FENCES FOR OVER 3 WEEKS AND LOST ALOT OF WEIGHT.

FOR THE LAST 20 YEARS DAD HAS TO GET A NEW FARMERS ALMANAC. IT USED TO BE THE FREE MFA ALMANAC UNTIL THEY QUIT PRODUCING THEM. NOW HE USES THE SHELDER INSURANCE ALMANAC. I HAVE PURCHASED HIM THE HIGH DOLLAR ONES AND HE SAYS THEY DON'T GIVE AS MUCH INFO AS THE FREE ONES.

WHO KNOWS! TELL ME WHY WHEN MY FALL CALVING COWS HAVE BABY CALVES SOME YEARS THEY ARE BORN WITH LOTS OF HAIR ON THEM AND OTHER YEARS THEY HAVE THE SAME AMOUNT OF HAIR ON THEM AS MY SPRING CALVES.

AS FAR AS THE WEATHER PEOPLE THEY USE COMPUTERS. AND WE ALL UNDERSTAND THAT COMPUTERS ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE INFORMATION THAT IS PUT INTO THEM. AND AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED THE BEST WEATHER FORCASTER THAT EVER LIVED WAS EARL FINCKLE WHO WORKED OUT OF CHICAGO. HE USED TO BE ON THE AG TV PROGRAMS ON SATURDAY MORNINGS. WHEN EARL GAVE A MONTH AHEAD FORCAST FOR RAIN OR SNOW YOU COULD TAKE IT TO THE BANK. GRANTED HE WOULD USUALLY MISS IT A DAY OR TWO. BUT HEY 3 WEEKS OUT AND MISS IT A DAY OR TWO WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME.

WE HAVE PEOPLE HERE IN SPRINGFIELD THAT CAN'T GET THE NEXT DAY RIGHT!

    Default And The Beagle Factor!

Ok Maybe The Persimmons With The Shovels In Them Are Kind Of A Stretch!

But When Beagle Calls Me Out Of The Blue Last Sunday And Tells Me He Is Headed To Bass Pro To Get Him Some "under Armor" For Cold Weather. I Am No Fool I Am Headed To Wal-mart And Looking For Snow Shovels!

Oh And If You Have Not Tried That Under Armor It Is Worth Every Penny It Costs!

I've heard of watching the woolly worms since I move out here and I have observed them for about 6 years now, and if what I have seen, these furry dudes are telling us that we will have a really cold winter

I've heard lots of different signs, but like rugs mentioned, the catapillars on the only ones I can ever remember.

From the almanac I get,it predicts it will get dark towards night, light during the day.Cold in the winter, with a warming trend towards spring, summer will have hotter days, with cooler weather as we move into fall. They base this on records for the last 27,930 years.
Have a underground weatherman type of day!

Default Predicting weather by Persimmon seeds

If one sees the fork, it means a mild Winter.

If one sees a spoon, it means a lot of snow for the upcoming Winter.

If one sees a knife, it means cold Winter winds are ahead.

The MFA almanac is still alive and well. When MFA Oil co and MFA insurance company split in 1976 the almanac went with the renamed company of Shelter Insurance. Stop by any Shelter insurance agents office he should have them and by the way the 2010s almanac are out now. If you don't have an agent handy pm me and I'll send you one.
The almanac is surprising accurate and it even tells the best fishing days and times...
