    Default Seined yesterday...

I hadn't been part of a group that seined a lake since I was a 10-year-old boy (about 30 years ago). But I was invited to help in a seining yesterday. Boy, that was fun.

We seined two small farm ponds that my wife's uncle owns. They get little fishing pressure and he wanted to thin the population a bit. He made the mistake of putting crappie in one of the ponds a few years back and the ponds are just too small to support a decent crappie population. We did end up with a few true slabs in the net, however. One went a good 14".

We also had some nice bass (which went right back in the lake) a bunch of nice cats and the obligatory mess of bluegill. Oh, and three snappers, too.

Just a good time. We had a nice-sized group of guys there and got the fish cleaned up real quick. Lots of fun....

I have a small pond that is stocked with cats, bass, and crappie. I can cast across it. My wife caught a 16.75 in crappie out of it 3 years ago, we've caught a couple 14's also. I was at work when she caught the big one, so she put it in a fish basket to show me when i got home. The basket smothered it so it was dead when i finally made it home. She was so excited it was hard to be mad at her for killing it. Later, Dave

Seinin' is just like a box of chocolates. . . . . Have you ever seined and had a grass carp jump over the net? They are abosolute rockets. Beagle, if you ever decide to seine your pond, with all the different species you've put in, I want to help.

The best way to sample is with a 220 volt generator, just like the Department of Consternation does. Do me a favor Beagle, don't try that. I can just see you shooting flames out of your (whatever) and hollering Nyit, Nyit, Nyit.

I think I will just stay with the fish trap. I may be slow but not that slow.
