Default Fishing for Freedom on Mark Twain (my plug )

If you haven't heard of or been involved with this, I highly recommend it. If you have a boat, no matter what kind, whether you're set up for crappie, bass or catfish, you can participate. If you don't have a boat but are a vet or active service member, you can participate. It doesn't cost anything and if you're a current or former service member, your hotel is paid for as well.

Here's the deal, volunteer boaters are paired up with a warrior and you can go either to Mark Twain Lake, or fish on the Missouri river(two different categories). Also, there are divisions for bass, crappie, and catfish. There are all kinds of activities all weekend long which you can choose to participate in or not. Last year was my first time and it was incredible. I met some great people, made some good friends and gave a soldier who LOVES to fish an opportunity he doesn't normally get. Warriors come from all over the country to this event and it would be a shame to have to leave one standing on the dock because there aren't enough boats. Check it out on their website Fishing for Freedom Quincy

I agree I go as a Warrior/Boater. And have fished in the past as just a Warrior. It is a blast. This year will be my 5th or 6th year. You can fish the river or the lake and they have categories for all different types of fish. A lot of the guys and gals bring their families. From what I understand is they are still shy for boaters. Hopefully I will see some of you there

This is an awesome deal! Dad and I volunteered as boaters the first couple of years it was held in Quincy and on the Mississippi River and Dad has continued as a boater since I moved up North. He's doing it again this year and probably putting the vets up at our cabin. I think he's on a mission as his boat finished 4th last year in the crappie division.
