Side scan can present a problem on the bow mount because the transducer moves with the trolling motor. Most people I know use 2d and down imaging only. There is a transducer mount that can be mounted by itself but results in a lot of cluster on the bow. You might want to read some posts on the electronics forum.

Down scan works fine on the trolling motor, usually your looking for brush or structure and going in a steady straight line. Lots of good locators on the market, do your research.
Having said the down scan works good on the trolling motor, I tried it and moved it to the back.. seems I like it on the back better.

Give the Humminbird Helix 7 SI/GPS combo a good look. It will have 2D sonar, GPS mapping ability, Down imaging and Side imaging. It is MSRP at $699.99 but can be bought for less. Probably enough less to buy a Ram mount for it for up front.

check out the garmin 93sv. it has a 9" screen, downvu and sidevu. very detailed maps already preloaded. msrp is around $1200, but i bought mine about a month ago for $699. they replaced it this year with the chirp so that is why the huge discount. I absolutely love mine. I keep mine on the back, and have a humminbird 788ci di on the front. works great for me. won't find a 9" screen for less with those features. not having to buy a $150 map card is nice too.
