Twas the night before LOZ
And all through the camp
No fisherman was sleeping
Envisioning the Ramp
Poles and bait primed
And tucked in their boat
In hopes of a Great Day
So at camp they may gloat.
Bugman was nestled with his warm Crappie Chic.
Speck hunter’s not coming, because his truck it too sick.
And I in my tent, freezing off my ass.
Hoping Crappies in my future and not those green bass.
When out on the lake, we heard a large splash.
We tear out of our tents in a hurried dash.
Down to the shoreline we all gathered round.
To identify the entity that made this loud sound.
The moonlight danced like diamonds atop the waves peaks.
As the gentle breeze endeavored to chill our warm cheeks.
When what to our wondering eyes should appear.
A man in a boat pulled behind white tailed deer.
With a camouflage hat and yellin’ like hell.
I knew in an instant, it must be Isbell.
Like lightning across the surface they plowed.
Leaving a rooster tail behind that would make Mercury Proud.
On Fryguy on Hogster, on Saluki , Gonefishingee
On Crappiehead, on Beagle, on Slab Hunter & ShortStorie
To the Boo Beds we go, off the edge of the dock.
There isn’t much time against the ticks of the clock.
As shad split the surface before their predators break.
They skimmed to a spot, east side of the lake.
So onto his hole the whitetail did do.
With a boat full of gear and ole Izzy too.
Upon the lakes top, the deer hoofs did dish.
I heard Izzy exclaim, quiet down guys, you’ll spook the fish.
As I focused in my eyesight the driver moved fast.
He pulled out a short rod and made his first cast.
He was dressed in carhart, stained from fish slime
Sequined with fish scale his technique was sublime.
A camouflage shirt, he wore on his back.
From this shirt he removed a cigarette pack.
His eyes twinkled in the blaze of his lighter.
Meanwhile the limp line of his pole grew tighter.
His cigarette glowed red from his short little drags.
Slowly he guided the jig through all submerged snags.
The stump of the cigarette dangled slightly from his lip.
Feeling a thump from a Crappie the pole he did rip.
His eyes they lit up,with his mouth he did smile.
As he fought with the fish a short little while.
With a quick flick of the net, into the water he did dab.
He giggle to himself as he gazed at the slab.
He unhooked the fish, to the floor the jig fell.
He opened the lid and placed the fish in the well.
He jumped in the driver seat and to the team gave a clap.
The deer sprang forward with a quick little snap.
And I heard him exclaim as they drove out of sight.
May your baits all be wet and your line always tight.

Nothing makes a Crappie grow faster than almost being caught.
Superb!
