    Default shallow crappie

Haven't been out much, but had some free time early this a.m.

Grabbed a couple dz. minnows and hit the little platte river at the end of my road.(where they took out the old steel bridge)Wasn't expecting much, just to scratch an itch.

Was slow as expected, but was surprised to get 2 15"ers and 2 13"ers mixed in with a few dinks.Things got slow and got a little bored, started reading the paper(fishing from the bank),wind picked up and minnow was blown near the edge....started nailing them every drift for about 30 minutes..crappie/drum/channel cats/whites and a small bass...was out of minnows, but even the dead ones worked. Was about 1 foot down in maybe 3 feet of water..bright sun and not a lot of cover...just a shock to me as I was casting out to the channel edge earlier thinking deep.

Feels good to post an actual fishing post....still unemployed and getting scared about being able to keep the house, but something will come up.

You just combined techniques of two of the best guides...shallow in the summer (Chatt) and dead minnows (Richard Bowling).

Good luck on the job search... let us know where you land and we'll have another Northland get together there... Unless it's too classy for a bunch of fishermen.
