Unhappy Sardis Getting Back to Normal

Fished Sardis on Wednesday and Thursday. Good news was that our keepers averaged 1.6 pounds each. Bad news was that we caught about 3 throwbacks for every keeper. I'm afraid the throwback ratio is starting to look a lot like last year for us. 80% of our throwbacks were between 11" and 12"....nice fish but not quite old enough.

Probably because you are trolling. Just guessing, smaller fish spawn out early. I've been pole fishing 2 to 6 feet deep and catching at least 2 keeper for every throwback. You been fishing the lower end? I heard they were running smaller down there. Try the upper end of the lake, we have been catchin' chunks.

Yep, trolling in the lower end from Clear Creek to the dam. We caught biguns pole fishing in shallow water (3 to 4 FOW) last weekend but few to be found shallow this week (assume the storms on Sunday pushed the fish back to deep water) so we went back to trolling....found lots of fish in 15 FOW. We had been catching more keepers than throwbacks until this week. The keepers we are catching are good ones (13" to 15" females) but the big fish seem to have gotten a lot more scarce all of a sudden.

Whats the hot lure at Sardis now? I've been using the Roadrunners in Black/Chart.

I trolled Sardis Thursday on the upper end and caught a lot of fish. I also saw 3 throws to 1 keeper. The winds are what I'm not liking right now.

For us it's been red/chartreuse tubes on 1/32 oz jigs if pole fishing shallow. Yellow/chartreuse Gant jigs tipped with minnows or red hooks with minnows if trolling.

Everyday spent outdoors with good company is worth the time and effort it takes to make it happen. Take a friend fishing!

We kept 26 today. Trolling with minnows and jigs tipped with minnows in 4 ft of water. I would say we caught 50 to 60.
