I'd say the oil companies have as much or more money in their pockets than the Fed's do. Money talks.

I wished they would quit questioning them about it cause it seems every time they go up on the hill to talk about what they are going to do, the gas prices go up as well. I'll bet it cost less today to produce a gallon of gas, than it did 20 years ago. Heck with the technology they have today youo can bet they are using half the man power. Them peckerwoods (senators & congressmen as well) ought to have to fill their tanks up with their own money and something might be done. I'm up to about $80.00 a day. I do get reimbursed for it but I might get a raise if gas prices would go back to $3.00.

Here's the kicker...They can make all the excuses in the world but when you hadn't built any new capacity to refine oil to make gas, while gettin all these tax breaks to build more stuff IN THE LAST 25 YEARS, someone should go to jail over this...THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. Bottom line.

I know a couple of people that work in the oilfield industry and their job is to sit in this office and pull levers and push buttons and they can pretty much run the rigs from their. One of them said that he was going to Houston to run it from that office. Another guy told me that when he is in his equipment office he feels like he is playing a "big" video game with all the screens and levers and such. It stinks what they are doing to us with the high prices and they know that we caint do anything about it, if we need it and they have it, we will continue to buy it, because we have to, to continue our daily lives. I know someone that quit their job because it wasn't feasable to go to work after paying the high gas prices. Another thing that confuse's me is that diesel was just the waste product from when they refined the gasoline out of the crude, and now the farmers are paying more for off road diesel than we are for super unleaded.

Yall are barking up the wrong tree. I don't want to get into a political debate here ,but the problem is with the environmentalist and the EPA. The environmentalist don't want us to drill for oil in Alaska's National Wildlife Refuge. The place has 19.6 million acers of land ,of witch we would only disturb 2000 acres to get to the oil. They also don't want us to drill off the coast of Florida for oil either, at the same time China has rigs 200 miles off the coast of Florida pumping oil. California has oil off the coast that we can't touch as well.

As for the refineries not being built, might want to check into the regulations that went into affect after the Exxon ship spilled oil in Alaska. The EPA has such stringent specs for building refineries now that it is almost impossible to be done within the guidelines. Also we are the middle east of coal. We can turn coal into oil for a whole lot less than what we are buying it for, but due to the EPA and environmentalist we can't at this time. No one wants a refinery or coal mine in their back yard. Even if we started drilling and started building refineries today it would be 10-15 years before we see anything from it.

It doesn't bother me one bit that the oil companies are making record profits. What you don't hear from the "good" folks in Washington is they also paid in record income tax last year too. If Washington was really concerned about it they could cut their income tax rates. Don't see anyone on here complaining about that. They paid more to the feds in income tax last year than they profited. Thats a fact you won't hear come from Washington. I say more power to them, make all you can. Isn't that what a free country is about. Why not buy stock and make some yourself?

Another reason that no one seems to take into account in the Futures Speculators. Yep the folks on Wall Street buying the oil up at these high prices thinking it will make the prices go up so they can resale it later for a profit. Did any of you know that the speculators buy more oil than the feds buy for our national reserve?

What really pizzes me off about the whole thing is we are spending 10 Billion a month over their , but we aren't getting any oil back from them. I saw somewhere this week that Iraq is now pumping 5.5 Billion in oil every month now, but it doesn't come here. It goes into the pot to distributed through out the world.

None on here said it yet ,but it coming, "It's Bush's fault". Nope wrong again. If you think a president has anything to do with the oil prices, go ahead and elect Obama and just see how fast the price drops. What little bit of oil he may be tied to in Texas is a drop compared to what we use everyday. Think Bush is bad, just imagine if Gore would have been in power the last 8 years. Don't get me wrong I think Bush is an idiot, but he was better than the other choices we had. Our brilliant Congress (remember who is in power) passed a law this week stopping us from putting oil in our reserve. Supposedly it will make the price go down, a whole 3 cents. Everyone cheered and clapped. The next thing you will hear is "Why don't take some of the oil and flood our market to lower prices", and the people will cheer again. Next thing you know we won't have a reserve and we'll be very vulnerable to any of our enemies. Think the cold war ended in the 80s? It's just getting started.

Think it's bad now just wait it's about to get a whole lot worse. Gas will probably be $4 by the end of the weekend. $130 was a threshold everyone "in the know" didn't want us to cross. Once $130 was met , it's supposed to go to $150 pretty quick , that should put us somewhere around $6.50 a gallon. Probably some where around August. It's going to take something like this for us to wake up and tell the environmentalist to shut up and sit down. We are being held hostage by a small percentage of the population.

Honestly though in the long run, as long as we don't loose our reserves, we'll come out of this better off. The money to be made trying to get us off oil is unmeasurable. Someone will come up with something to replace it soon. On the bright side there is no shortage, so if you can afford it buy all you want.

Thanks tcounty...you saved me a lot of typing! Here is a link that might interest you. Who really profits more on gas, the federal and state governments or the oil companies? Keep in mind when you look at the chart in the link that you have to add 18.4 cents per gallon for the Federal government to the individual state tax. Then, lets add to the kitty the amount of taxes paid on profits by the big bad oil companies! http://www.gaspricewatch.com/usgastaxes.asp[/url]

Our inept congress is passing the buck on this one. That way the monkey is off of thier back to actually do something about this!

Here is another one. Huge amounts of oil and natural gas lie on our soil but a few keep us from getting to it! Also, as tcounty mentioned, the inability to drill off our own coast. You can bet China and other countries are out there just off of our territorial waters pumping up all they can.

Well, just saw where late electronic trading yesterday afternoon put oil just over $135 at $135.04....Gas in Columbus went to 3.81 yesterday... It now cost me about 65-70 bucks a day in gas, and i DON"T get paid back for it...Cheaper to rent a hotel then it is to drive home...It really is getting to the point where people can make more money off the goverment sitting at home then they can working....especially if it gets to 6.50...We will see what kind of power the gov. has then...

$6.50 a gallon? This year? Haven't heard that prediction before.

I'm thinking of starting a new business manufacturing buggy whips and boat paddles and bicycles. Anyone interested in getting in on the ground floor?

On the up side, it sure is going to reduce the fishing pressure until something gives.
