If you have a handheld GPS use it for speed, and look into either a Hummingbird 565 or Eagle 320 or 480.

I have a 565 and i am happy with it.

Color units are extreemly nice, and give more detail. Might be a little high, but in my opinion they are worth it if you have the money. A combo with gps is nice too, but you don't have to have it if you have a handheld.

I just got a Humminbird 727 which has great resolution and a dual beam. It cost 240 and the gps antena can be purchased seperately. The gps gives speed and location.

I too say go with an Eagle 320 or 480 and a handheld GPS that way you can take your WayPts with you on another boat and when the lake is down you can walk some good stuff for later.

I agree with SteveJ, the Eagle 320 and 480 are hard to beat for the money.

Like Daddy always said "everybody does everything a lil' different".......Yep, unless you can afford to buy a finder/gps combo........and then yet a seperate hand-held gps, I'd say go get you an Eagle 480 and a hand-held gps. I (along with many other 320 owners) had some major beef with these units powering up and down by themselves. Don't know if they've cured the problem or not on the 320s, but I now have a 480 up front, and another on the console. For the price, you can't beat the clarity, not to mention being very user friendly. As for the gps, I have a low-end Garmin E-Trex. I spend a lot of hours in the lake bottom in the winter, and that's where it comes in handy........then carry it with you on the boat........the speedometer is there, plus your waypoints.

But again, that's just lil' ol' ME talkin'.............

Amen, luvjign, having that E-Trex in your pocket and walking around on our lake bottoms in the winter is worth it's weight in gold.

I appreciate all the info! I looked at the 480 and read a couple of reviews and it seems to be a good unit! Now all I got to do is talk the wife into it! Cause if she don't like the idea I hate to make her mad cause one way or another I am gettin one at some point!
