I've been keeping up but haven't posted anything for some time. My wife and I went today and caught 45 that would have been keepers last year but were only able to bring home 9. That 5mph wind out of the north kept us in a creek for most of the trip. About 1p.m. the wind calmed down and you could have fished pretty much anywhere. We may try it again tomorrow. It's good to be back on the board as a poster.
Welcome back. At least ya'll caught a bunch. Maybe they'll grow up
by next year.
Shoals Area Crappie Association
Yes that's what I kept telling myself today. What was really tough was throwing back all the ones that were almost 12. Just checked the forecast and our plans for tomorrow may not work out. The rest of the week doesn't look that great either. Hopefully I will be able to share some fishing reports now that I'm back on the board. I wanted to tell everyone how impressed I've been with the support the members give to each other. There really is a brotherhood among crappie fishermen.
Sounds like us. Navy and I caught 30 to 40 today that most would have kept last year. Sardis was eerily still today at 1pm. Don't know that I have ever seen it that calm during the middle of the day.
Where did you put in rip? Were ya'll crank baiting again?
We put in at Holiday and were pulling cranks.
Yeah it's not often you see it that slicked over in May. Wind was out of the southeast pretty good when we woke up and it rained here most of the morning. Trip canceled today.
I've been pulling cranks on Sardis during last week. I'm finding the fish really scattered and in deeper water (mainly around the river channel). Catching most of my fish in 40 - 50 FOW on cranks. Not many keepers but lots of fun seeing the poles bending and hauling in lots of last year's keepers. At least I don't have a lot of fish to clean when I come in from fishing this year. Sounds like yesterday was a good one for fishing...haven't had many of those this spring.
Same with you guys?
When you pull cranks. How many hours do you get out of your trolling motor, and how fast are you going. I have a 18' boat with a 45 lb trolling motor.
Hey jug, I'm not sure about the other guys but I use my outboard for pulling cranks. On my boat just putting the motor in gear will push me 1.5 to 1.8 mph.
