I do not have one, but I have read alot of post on here about them, and it seems like everyone that has them love them and very few of them had any problems with them.
You may be able to get a better survey on the electronics board.
Here is a link that has a few pics taken from a sidescan.

I've got to look at a couple on the water, a 987 and a 997.

Only con I see is the cost - I'd of had one by now
if they wasn't so durned high.

Yeah they are pricey but I had rather spend my money of GOOD electronics, they will catch more fish than anything in my tackle box.

Oh yeah, I don't doubt a bit that they're worth it, but that's a hefty
chunk to try to slip by on the warden I mean wife...

I can slick a rod or two or some baits by her now and then, but
a grand or two is a hoss of a different color :D

I got a 797. Sideascan is fine. Fishfiner is ok. Gps works, but the big Icons suck. If you mark several waypoints (in close proximity of one another) , it is hard to tell where you are at on the map. Boat Icon also too big. Screen is way too small for the big Icons. I just don't use waypoints function (except for grid scanning).

I mostly use the sidescan so I am happy with it. Don't tell Humminbird folks I said this.

    Tom

By the way, I can find fish without any electronics.
