I bet that will be the last time you get caught like that. Most people get in that situation once......once

A beautiful day can turn nasty in a short amount of time. I went fishing on Sardis Lake yesterday and it was absolutely gorgeous. The fish were biting and I was having a great time. I heard some thunder in the distance southwest of the lake. I was on the north side around marker 11 and had put in at Holiday Lodge. I looked at the radar on my phone and it looked like it was not moving north. About 10 minutes goes by and I see a lightning bolt across the lake so I start to pack up to get to the boat ramp. I was about 5 minutes from the ramp in my boat that does 30 mph. I get half way there and the frontal wind starts to pick up. In 30 seconds I am getting swamped in 8 foot waves. I had to slow the boat down to a crawl and I fought those waves for the last half mile. The people at the ramp area said those waves were just throwing me all over. They said I looked like one of those guys on the Discovery Channel in a natural disaster show. I made it to the only little stretch of beach by the ramp and my boat was full of water to the gunnals. The bilge pump was just overwhelmed.
I made it safely and there were many great folks helping each other through this disaster. The boats on the beach had gotten pushed up way on shore and when things calmed down everyone helped to get all the boats back in the water.
So it was good to see people helping each other and always pay attention when you are on big water.

Holliday is to me the most dangerous ramp on the lake. Seen several get swamped at the ramp

Been there, done that. Not a good feeling! Glad all went well.
Over 10 mph. Stay off Sardis. Pop up thunderstorms in the summer will sink your boat.
In matter of fact when I got there there was a boat just sitting on the ramp. I guess they tried to put it on the trailer during the high waves and it washed right off of the trailer onto the concrete. They had to get a crane truck to lift it onto the trailer. So we all had to wait for that to clear also.
