    Default Crappie Reels

Okay, I got great advice here and purchased the spyder lock rod holders and ez poleholder was a great guy to deal with. Now I am looking for reels to purchase for slow drifting, possibly trolling, maybe even pulling cranks BUT SPECIFICALLY FOR HOVERING OVER DEEP BRUSH and maybe even a cast or two with a floater tied on. Now, I know I have listed a large area to cover, but I am checking to see if anybody has found one thing that will do. I have used the president phleuger reel, but line twist on a spinning reel gives me trouble no matter what. I like them and still use them, but line twist is just a pain.

I use bait casters now because of the line twist and other benefits. Academy from time to time will have them on sale for about $15 each. They aren't high dollar reels but they have served me well so far. I haven't used them for trolling crank baits though, so I couldn't say about that. For trolling cranks I use line counter reels, to me it almost a necessity.

Academy Sports has been good for great clearance prices. Check their online site clearance from time to time. Buy enough for free shipping.

Get to an auction early to check out what the seller has before bidding starts. Never know what they have. At one auction the seller had the candy apple cast combos. The bidding didn't go very high, he sold one to the highest bidder, needed $50. His next trip he sold them for $30.

I use line counters on my spider rig poles. It’s easier on my kids to keep up with a number once they are zeroed out at water line then drop to what depth I tell them.
