I have been reading with regular intrest the MS board. I would like to come down and fish this spring. My question is which lake is really the best. Grenada, Sardis, or Enid? I am always hearing Grenada but just like Mid Tn. you hear Percy Priest but locals know it is not the best. My prefered method of fishing is jigging around standing timber or slipping minnows around them. Your help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
Sardis will give high numbers, but you will have alot of throw back fish. Enid is good also. Enid and Sardis are about the same with a little bigger fish. Grenada has the big fish but not the numbers. The grenada big fish won't last long because of all the press that Grenada gets.
Man the increase of threads started with What lake is the best I am coming down are really rollin on this board. All these lakes are GREAT lakes and I would say just pick one and come on down and git after em!!!!! They all yield good fish and weather and water levels are gonna be what I would be most concerned with if I were comin down. You can go to the corps sitesto check water levels. I dont have em but I am sure somebody that reads this could maybe post a link to it. I will try and check back in here tomorrow and see if anyone has. If they havent I will get my man Crappie123 to paste it in here. I would come to Miss 1st 2nd week to maximize potential spawn fishing.
So help me out a little. When does the corps start holding back the water? I use to live near KY Lake and seems as though the corps would always hold the water back about the same time each year. Was wondering if it was the same there?
ranger they are already holding back a little letting it up slowly so a big rain don't do no damage i suppose should be enough in there mid march for some good fishing, i'm praying for a little extra rain to bring it up 10 , 15 over rule curve by 1st of april
May 1 is when they start holding for summer pool. It will fluctuate wildly until then, because they close the gates to ease flooding down river after a big rain then crank them open to let the lake down to winter pool as quickly as possible.
Take Arkabutla for example. Winter pool is 210. It has risen to 213 this week since the last rain. They ease the gates open as much as they can to let out water without the river downstream flooding. When the Delta runoff has subsided and the Coldwater starts dropping, they gap the gates open to get the lake back down to 210 so they can hold whatever the next rain brings. When it hits 210 they shut them down to minimum flow. They won't start holding anything over 210 until May 1. At least that's what I've observed. A dry spring like last year and the lake sits at 210 for a long, long time.

Here's the link to the water levels for the four Corp Lakes down the "Crappie Highway." If you have enough time, plan on fishing a couple of these great lakes. Like Slab said, we're trying the second week of April for our camp. We will be at Sardis but hopefully fish Arkabutla and Enid couple of those days too. Hope this helps. The water levels in all of these lakes right now are WAY LOW!!!

C123, I agree that everyone who is thinking about coming to fish should pay attention to the lake water levels.
The lake levels are "Way Low" right now, but if you check the Corps Rule Curve, they are exactly where the Corps wants them. The spring fishing is totally dependent on getting enough rain to meet the fill curve.
I saw that Pops... They know what they are doing and don't care about the fishing, strictly flood control... Hopefully we will get some rain soon.
I learned today that May 1 is when they hold water in Arkabutla, but the other reservoirs start March 1. Sorry for the confusion.
