What are the size limits and daily creel limits on crappie there? Never been. Anyone have any advice?
Creel limit is 30 (statewide limit). There is no size limit of which I am aware.

I fished there this past weekend, but had no luck with the crappie. The weather was horrible (very windy), I really didn't get out there too much. Talked to several of the "locals" and they've been doing okay. Several were catching them on blue/white jigs or chartreuse jigs while trolling about 4-6 foot deep.
Don't let this keep you away though. Its a beautiful lake and there plenty of fish in it. I just didn't feel like fighting the wind too much to get out there and catch them.
ClarendonRR, I've been trying to get some information about this lake, not having much luck. Do they suck this lake down for winter pool like Grenada?
What's the closest place to stay and resturants. Is their a HP limit? Is it tough to get around in? What's the average size of the Crappie? Any fishing advice would also be helpful. Thanks...

Clipper,
I'm sorry but I don't know a whole lot about this lake. I have a friend who's parents live on the lake and I went and stayed with them for the weekend and tried to get a little fishing in. I actually live in Ark about 180 miles away.
Any questions you have though, I can try to find the answers.
From what I gathered by talking to my friend's parents and other "locals", the lake is a natural oxbow lake. It doesn't get drained during the winter, and during the summer there are bass tournaments going on all the time with big bass boats roaring from one end of the lake to the other, so there probably isn't a HP restriction.
I can tell you that the nearest town with places to eat/sleep is Yazoo City (about 17 miles away).
For more information you can call the store/bait shop next to the boat ramp. Bell's Store: 662-235-5930

The lake is a land locked oxbow. Water levels are at the mercy of rain clouds and evaporation. It used to get really muddy after a rain, but I think the runoff traps have helped that a good bit.
Yazoo City is closest "nice" town.

It still gets muddy in the spring when the farmers start plowing.

this lake is about 10 miles from my place in Benton, Ms. I have fished it a lot over the years and have had varying degrees of fishing luck. The crappie do fairly well in the spring and fall. Winter time fishing is usually fair, but it is a very open lake that the wind gets you from every angle. because it's a shallow lake, the water temp changes very rapidly. it's affected by the weather more than the deeper impoundments.
plenty of cover for tightlining. plenty of open water for trolling. Plenty of crappie over 2lb. fthis lake has gained a lot of notoriety because when the fish turn on, they're turned on. but they can turn off just as fast when the weather changes.
farming causes some trouble with muddy water when the rains are heavy. I just plan on fishing muddy water when I go.
We also have a large population of bass. Hope this helps. lol![]()
