Made my yearly trip to bass pro shop in memphis yesterday and spent to much as normal. However I couldnt pass up on some of there sale items. I purchased a new trolling motor for my scamp that I thought was a pretty good deal. I picked up three Wally Marshall poles which I think are the best crappie poles out there for under $30 on-sale. I dont think people would ever buy another BandM if they just knew how good a Wally Marshall pole produced. Its got the backbone and sensitivety that you need in a crappie pole not to mention the best part "free replacement" if one brakes. NO TIPS TO BUY FREE REPLACEMENT AT BASS PRO!!! I use 10ft-12ft universal to jig, troll and cast year around. I also purchased several packs of the squirmin squirts tubes that are on sale for 0.99 cents in the 2 inch these things are normally 1.29 a pack. Anyway the sale goes throught next week and they have specials everyday. Dont miss it!!! Funny thing about all this is I work at Wal-Mart. This is one area of Wal-mart I see they are missing the boat on is crappie tackle.

Hi Spawner,
I had a friend tell me the othe day that he heard that Walmart is cutting back on the more high dollar baits and going to focus on bobber, sinkers, hooks, etc. Just the basics. Have you heard anything like that?
Thanks,

A few years ago at Wal-Mart, if you had a knowledgable person in charge of sporting goods, you could get a pretty good selection of local baits. I think the "great computer list in the sky" now tells them exactly what to order and how many.
I was at the local store last week and the section for jig skirts had about 50% empty pegs. I asked the clerk about it and he said that they had just finished the new stocking arrangement and some skirts would be in in the next few weeks. I asked him about being ready for the spring crappie season, and he just gave me a blank look.
I have noticed that the name brand stuff seems to be less every year, and I'm starting to see weird stuff stocked, like a bunch of redfish and speck baits on the rack in N. Mississippi.

i agree with spawner on the wally marshal poles, i have been using them for a cuople of years and i really like'm. i was at the wal mart in millington last week and they dismantled the sporting goods dept altogether. they moved a couple of the racks into the automotive area, but very little stuff. i figured maybe they were remodeling, but there is not even a check out in that area anymore.
Wal-Mart is in the process of phasing out the sporting goods sections in their stores over the next year. Maybe not totally but most of it as we know it.![]()
I was at wal-mart yesterday and the clerk told me the same big cutback on lures they dont even carry 4 lb line anymore once they sell out. Guess they need some fishermen and women to run the place right!!
