The C.o.E. has the only map of Columbus Lake that I have ever seen. As for hotels there is a Holiday Inn, Motel 6, Hampton Inn and Winngate Inn that are all nice and clean. Resturants include, Old Hickory Steak House, Rubens Fish and Steak, Woodys on the Water, Mi Toro's. There are more resturants in town but these are the best in town. I dont know of any guides on the lake, but I would be happy to show you around some. The lake is really spooky shallow in places that you might think you could run. Are you fishing in the Regional C.USA tourney?

I'm hoping to fish it. With only a few weeks between my local tournament and the regional I don't want to wait until the last minute. I appreciate the help. I may send you a message soon for some more info.
Thanks,

Me and my son are fishing it also. I can show you where the boat ramp is......................but dang I ferget where I put those condos. Maybe I can remember where an old tree or something is. Just kidding I can help you navigate around the lake. It can be very tricky due to the huge shallow stump fields but the channels and old river cuts are well marked.

I'll take ya up in it Minnerman. And I understand. I fish and guide on Kentucky Lake. And I feel the same. If I am lucky enough to make the Classic again this year I will be more then happy to help someone get around the lake and even find a few spots. But my honey holes are another thing. I would really appreciate help finding my way around. It looks like a bunch of ox bows straightened out by the Tombigbee which I guess was the purpose huh. Still it looks tricky to say the least!

The oxbows aint so bad. Its getting to the gravel pits and up Tibbee Creek that are the boat killers. Tibbee Creek is just up from the dam on the west side of the river channel and since they have started having a bunch of big time bass tourneys here they have put more bouys out. But they are still tricky. As long as you stay in the middle of the oxbows you can run wide open in all of em, but when you try to get into the Gravel Pits you really need to know your way around. These pits range from 6'-20' deep that are surrounded by large flats where the birds walk(very shallow) with some of the flats ranging from 2'-6'. These flats also have stumps that make tractor tires blush and props cry. Like I said, I will show you how to get around, but I cant promise we will catch any fish. If ya no what I mean. lol. But you got to look on the brite side. Most of the locals wont even show you around here. They will just sit back and laugh at you when you run aground.

Minnerman,
I am new to starkville and would love some advise about where to start on Columbus. I don't fish tournaments, but love to fish. I have been studying the lake on google earth anf from the dam, but have yet to put my boat in. I am planning to fish Saturday and would be greatful if you could point me to couple of good areas. Thanks.
When you come out of the east bank landing go left towards the dam. When you get to the main channel go north a couple hundred yards and go between the last island and the point to the left. This will put you in Tibbee Creek. Whatever you do follow the bouys. You can go past the first turn to the right around the little island and then go back right, straight toward the island and follow the small creek to the left. You can run wide open but you better know where you're going. When you get within about 100 yards from the island take 90 degrees to left and head toward the standing timber. Run the out side edge of the timber around the left hand side all the way to the back. This is Kellogg Slough. Lots of good fishing in there but not sure if the crappie are there yet. You can also follow the bouys on up Tibbee to the power lines and just above them on the left is Spring Creek. Tibbee has very deep water with lots of standing timber and sloughs all the way up it. What ever you do be careful whenever you get out of the channel or old river runs. Water is very shallow and big stumps everywhere. Maybe this will help.
