    Default Spawn Color

What color is best for the spawn or does it matter? I caught a few male bass and one male crappie today in really shallow cover. They had already turned dark.

I want to know what is good for catching them when they are spawning too. I just caught one today when I was sight fishing. I think I could have done better with a different color.

Okay...this is what the old man at the place down there told me...He uses chartreuse most of the time, but he will use another color so long as it is chartreuse, chartreuse, or chartreuse.

Truth be told, they work really well, but they do not work really well all the time. I usually have to change colors a good bit depending on water clarity, and even that is sketchy...I'm of the opinion that crappie change their mind about what they like to eat as often they can.

Of course, I rarely catch anything so I probably don't know nothing.

I think my friend was using chartreuse today. I will try it out. I am not looking at making them interested in wanting to eat it, I just want something to make them bite it when I put it right in front of their face and annoy them when I am sight fishing. But if they are hungry, then it is easier to catch them, haha.

Water clarity has a lot do do with it, water level and temp.

Well for me, it is extremely clear water. Probably 15 ft of visibility. Water level is all the way up and at 57 degrees right now. It will be warming more with the sunny weather this week. Sorry for thread jacking!

So pretty much what works for your lake normally unless the water, temp, etc. changes?

Tenn tom, I use some kind of chart. org/chart, blk/chart, red/chart, blue/chart, grn/chart, strait chart.......you see a pattern? That's just me though, hope this helps....

As far as sight fishing in CA.....I think your on the wrong board, all our water is muddy, and none of us have ever sight fished for crappie..........
