O.K. I have a question I am sure you guys can answer. I have the crankbait chart. My question is this:
If I am trolling with a 1/32 oz. jig tipped with a minnow how close to the crankbait chart will I be. Iwill be using a no.7 weight, and eight lb. test line.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks Guys

The crankbait charts are for cranks only. Trolling is a entirely different ball game .

I run about 4-5' deep with a single 1/16th RR Jig, maybe 30' of line out, .8-1 mph speed, that will fluctuate some on turns too. Obviously you can go a little deeper with more weight or by slowing down and vice versa. Hope that helps.
It's all over but the fryin'......
Release to the grease, do you long line or push the rr jigs?
Longline, around 30' of line out the back give or take. The next couple of months is a great time to do this, btw.

I'm assuming this depth will vary with line size, going with wind or against the wind, or current? You guys are killing me. I've just become proficient enough using methods previously detailed on this forum to occasionally put some meat on the table. Somewhere I think I read , or heard, that if you come up with a method of catching fishes on a regular basis, then stick with it. Practice makes better. Longlining sounds like fun, but how do you do this in a lake full of logs and stumps and about 8 feet deep? Obviously, you wouldn't want to long line in this type of water. I'm tempted to try it, but I'd like to have the opportunity to try it in some water that's better suited. Can you do this in muddy water? Does that make a difference? I can't get over the number of ways to catch these fishes. My mind is zapped. You guys are amazing.
Longlining, at least the way I'm talking about it is pretty simple. I'm just using 6lb Wally HiViz Mono and the RR jigs w/ curly tails most of the time, rods out the sides just like a crank pulling setup but slower speed and jigs instead of cranks. There are people who do this year round and run the jigs deeper, etc, but I'm talking about running the jigs shallow over spawning flats in the spring and fall when they are up shallow. You will catch a lot of bream, shellcracker and some bass also, very easy and pretty good action. As far as the hangups, you will lose some jigs doing this, it just kind of comes with the territory. One thing I'm going to try this year is using a hitchhiker T-rigged to see if I can make my jigs a little more weedless, just don't know if they will hook up as well rigged like that but will find out soon enoughAlso, another thing many have said before, a variable speed trolling motor is pretty important to get the speed right and auto pilot are pretty indespensible for this, especially if you're fishing alone.

I think I'll try this Wed or Thur in one of my lakes. The water is still muddy from the rains and I usually hunt'em around brush with conditions like this. Would a small over spinner and jig work? My supply of horsehead jigs are limited at present, but I have the stuff to make small spinners something like the beetle spin set-up. Thanks for the info![]()
