    Default Long Line Trolling

CWT and I are getting interested in trying long line trolling. We figure we might do some good starting in Feb and running through the post spawn. We have been watching all of Russ Baily's Midwest Crappie shows on long lining trying to pick up some tips.

We're stocking up on 1/32 and 1/16 oz. road runner jig heads and southern pro hot grubs. The long line technique seems pretty simple. Tie on the jig, make a long cast, troll the drop offs and creek channels @ .8 - 1.0 mph and pull in the fish.

Any thoughts on how well this will work or how to do it better?

It works but I really like the slow vertical trolling a lot better as its easier to contol your depth and prevent snags etc.

Go to the GA board and ask DI for info, think he is the LL guru. I'm like G3, like spider-rigging the best.

It's a pretty simple concept, WFG. My dad used to do nothing but drift fishing or long lining and we caught a lot of fish. It seemed to be most productive on windy days when the wind can push you and not have to worry about the rods bouncing around. We used to long line out the side of the boat to keep the lines spaced out. To slow the boat down just put a drift sock out the back side and use the tm to keep the front in line. Very fun method of fishing if you can get into em.
