Takes a few tries to get the motor started. Wants to die when I try to put it in gear. Really runs great when running 30-100 percent. Plugs? Too rich? Sorry, no pictures of the miss.

Mercury two strokes are cold natured and really need to be run at fast idle in neutral for a few minutes before putting in gear. If you do not know when the plugs were changed last...it would be a good idea to change them. I change mine every year even if its still running good.

I only run mine a few minutes to warm up. I have never heard of stretching piston rods.

sounds like plugs, maybe plug wires. I would change the plugs first though
Its Foolish and wrong to morn the men who died, instead we should thank God that such men lived.

C'mon guys, buy a Yamaha? My Mariner came on my new-to-me tracker. If I was starting over, with an unlimited budget, maybe I would put a yammie on it but I have to play with the stuff I've got. I do agree that Yamaha makes very good stuff, but need to figure out what I have.
