Default Need help with Perko switch

Just bought a Perko battery switch.....need help with the hook up....

the switch has positions as follows: 2 - ALL - 1 - Off

    3 posts on the back......1 - 2 - COM

my goal is to have 2 batteries for the trolling motor.....when 1 peters out ...switch to number 2 .....

    Battery 1 - Positive - Post 1

    Battery 2 - Positive - Post 2

Battery 1 and 2 - Negative to Negative or do I run both Negatives to the COM post ??

The ALL position has both batteries on , would this blow my electronics?

.....it came with instructions;however, the instructions mostly talked about batteries meant for the boat motor and not a trolling motor....

thanks for any 2 cents ............:D:D:D

NO NO NO. Negative from both batteries go to the black (neg) wire from your motor. On the switch you are correct except the red (pos) cable from the motor get connected to the COM post. You would have a max smoke doing it your way. You won't hurt anything by putting it on the BOTH position. That just puts the batteries in parallel.

Looks like you would wire the trolling motor the same as the gas engine.

The switch is designed to be used for an engine of one sort or another. The drawing helps a bunch, but think of it this way.

The switch only deals with the positives. No negatives. The COM is the output of the switch. Post 1 and 2 are the inputs to the switch.

Your ground, or negative is wired just as it is now. No need to change anything there. You're only dealing with the positives from the batteries.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Just substitute your trolling motor for the outboard in the diagram, and you'll be fine.
