Here's my thinking (Ain't that scary, me thnking.) A lake sets up with a thermacline in the summer, then it rains for a couple days pushing alot of cool fresh water into the lake. It disolves the thermacline until the excess water is warmed enough by the heat of the day to reset the thermacline. You have a cool front that brought in the rain and your high temps during the day aren't hot enough to raise the surface temp rapidly enough to reset the thermacline for several days. During that time of resetting, the crappie will go deeper on cover during a bright day and shallow to feed on cloudy days and from just before dark til couple hours after first light. If you have a Bridge with a flat to it's right or left that is deadwater when alot of current comes under through the bridge, not only will it push alot of Shad onto that flat but it will hold Shad this time of year just like it does the rest of the year. The Crappie will do as they do the rest of the year and relate to not only the Shad but if there is a ridge with a 2 to 3 foot dropoff or some kind of structure, they will hold on that structure during the bright sunlight, then forage for food during a cloudy period or from just before dark til a couple hours past fight light. With an flat area like this being close to a Creek channel and having all the crappie wants, ie: cover, food and a get away system (Creek channel) this will be a perfect place to catch you a mess.
What you guys think?

If your talking about Pelahatchie Bay on the Rez. My biggest concern would be how muddy the water will be.

Mainly thinking about 43 but also just trying to figure these darn fish out for future reference. I know the Welfare hole os a great place to fill your boat when we have alot of current coming through the 43 bridge and kinda figured with all this rain it wold disolves the thermacline for a few days. We're only expecting highs around 90 or so through the weekend so it won't be hot enough to reset the thermacline til maybe the next weekend after it gets hot again. My thinking is the Crappie will go on a feeding frenzy if we get more current from all this rain. I know they opened up the gates abit on the spillway yesterday with the rain we had and the thing is the Pearl River Drainage Basin got alot of rain so it will add a good bit of current to the river over the next few days. This SHOULD cause them stack up at 43 and the welfare hold, followiong the Shad if we can get say a couple more inches of rain.

was mainly trying to figure out habits of Crappie more than anything else.

I don't think you will get any current out of the rain we got this morning. The lake is below summer pool so i figure they will hold any water that gathers. It would take one heck of a rain storm in the Northern Pearl River area. The fish in the Rez are in summer pattern. I don't think the rain will change where the fish are holding which is 12' deep against stumps. You may be able to catch them a little shallower early in the morning but once the sun gets up they will be where they always are!

I was mainly think somewhat hypothetically on that but yeh, was also kinda thinking it may put more current into the lake as well, disolving the thermacline temporarly. Lena got just under an inch of rain yesterday and Carthage got about a 1/2 inch. Not sure how much we got today so far but has to be close to an inch to go with the whatever we got yesterday so that won;t be enough to really raise the rez much at all. IF we got enough rain ( 3 or 4 days of heavy rains), would it cause what I was talking about to happen?

My head ain't hurtin yet but it is swimming. Don I am not sure if what you are talking about will happen just yet. It is a few degrees cooler and a bit of current is flowing but I am just not sure it is enough to make a difference yet. I ran into this last week in AL when I got to go. It rained good for on 2 days but it did not change the fish at all. Deep water, wood, and thermocline is where they were.
wishing I was fishing!
