Default Bay Springs resort development

My closest big lake - it is COE, and has always been limited in it's
development - one COE campground, and one marina area, leased
to my understanding. But no private ownership of shoreline, no private
docks. For a long time I selfishly wished "I" could buy a little lot and build a dock,
but as years have gone by, I've changed my outlook quite a bit -
I appreciate the deal of all sharing it equally, woods and deer, public hunting areas bordering the lake, wildlife
of all sorts, and not having to fish looking at somebody's cabin - or have
them gripe because I'm fishing "their" dock.

Now I read in the paper where the Tishomingo co. board of supervisors
has recommended a company to build a 300 million dollar resort on 1,000
acres of Corps property... complete with a big golf course, resort cottages,
the works. Not liking the sound of this, it's only about a 6,700 acre lake,
and already has one big marina - there'll be more ski boats than you can
shake a stick at. Not to mention destroying the scenic nature of the lake.
Wonder, down the approval process, how many of the decision-makers
will get rich off this? More seperation for the "haves" from the "have nots"
I'm really, really starting to think I'm gonna have to move from here some day.

Sounds like somebody is going to be making a lot of money off of land that was taken by immenant domain. Its just not right.

Just read your post and found it interesting. I imagine a few of those guys will make some money off the development, and some may have already gotten a little under the table. But, the main thing they think about is how much tax revenue it will generate. The more money they get from the public the more they can spend and keep their jobs. I really hate big government. As a general rule, there are always some exceptions, they could care less about fishing, fishermen or anything that has to do with it.

JWhite:

There's no place to move. They do it in every state that I know.
In TN..the worst example is Tellico Reservoir....farm land taken away,
and developers given all the choice property.

Can you spell "BUREAUCRAT"

. an administrator concerned with procedural correctness at the expense of people's needs.

That's bad news, Jeff. It's another form of taking public land and making it private for the "Haves". You're probably right about the boat traffic. It usually follows the people. That's one reason I'm trying to find places to fish that are hard to get to and as far from civilization as possible.

That sucks Jeff. Like Mr. John said, I'd rather fish around cypress tress and cotton mouths than jet ski's and ski boats.
