Unhappy Enid the 16th and 17th

Tried my best this weekend, caught 3 keepers. Is it just me or what? I used to be a pretty good fisherman, now I starting to second guess myself? I tried deep , shallow, in the wind, out of the wind, minnows, cranks, artificials. I caught the 3 keepers on minnows in Wallace creek 23 feet deep in 25 ft of water? What do you guys think?

I just got back from 4 days on Sardis. This weather has them some kind of messed up! My son and I caught fish every day but averaged less than 10 keepers each day.

FM, it ain't just you. We had one outstanding day at Sardis after leaving countless times with our tails between our legs from there, Tunica, Lakeview, Enid and Butla. This has been the strangest year for fishing I can remember since the early 90's. Even the catfish are jacked up.

Default Same here....

Fished for about 3 hours yesterday afternoon, and caught a passel of throwbacks, some borderline 12" fish, and 5 chunks slow trolling minners. Funny how they bit, though. You had to watch them pole tips close, and grab that pole and set the hook like your life depended on it when you saw it go up or down real slow........little ones, and biguns. One of them wierd feedin moods they get in every so often. One thing I did notice though.......them big fish were off to themselves several hundred yards from the little ones, but at the same depth....12' - 14' in 19 FOW right on the edge of the river. Wished I coulda fished longer, but had to go. It wasn't blazing hot, and the wind was out of the NE. I guess it was a pressure thang.

Enid lake is my home water and I can promise you depending on the water levels it can be tough in August and September, but you can still have some outstanding days trolling crank baits off major points and really concentrate on areas close to the dam. The fish will suspend a little deeper than in the other lakes. Rig up so you can move around alot.....use less rods/poles, etc. so mobility is not a problem. This time of year I fish one area and if it doesn't produce pretty quick I'll move to another. Use your GPS and f you catch fish mark the spots with a way point, and keep running a figure 8 through that area until they quit biting and then move on. When October rolls around there won't be a better lake for a big wall hanger trolling those hard baits.

Luv, the few I caught I had to keep my hand almost on the poles!
vhouston, thanks for the info, I'm definitely gonna keep trying and move around more.

I have been feeling your pain, fishermarine. I recently got my dad to get back out fishing with me after all of the successful trips I have made in the past few years of steady crappie fishing. I had him believing that I had this crappie thing figured out and wanted to reap some of the rewards. We have fished Butla 4 times in the past few weeks and not caught more than 2 keepers on any of them. I thought that maybe it was his bad luck bleeding off on me, so I went out Saturday alone (he was invited but had other plans). Three keeper fish caught, but one got off. Story of my life!! Tons of dinks and white bass. They were very hungry too. All of them swallowed my jig and minnow combo which led to several deep cavity searches. However, those two that I did land ended up in the skillet last night. No more throwing legal fish back. If two is all I catch then that will be four more fillets in the freezer. These fish have been too hard to come by and I don't like to have a completely empty freezer. Luvjiggin had it right, you really had to watch those tips too. The small fish took it with no hesitation, the larger fish just tapped a few times and were barely hooked. All fish were taken on jig minnow combo. Trolled cranks for the last 2 hours of the day with no results.

If your Dad is like mine, I'm sure he had a few nice comments to hurl your way as well?

He has never slow trolled before. So, yes there were a few words passed in sarcasim. He has always trolled with jig spinners and made his past success' with them be known. That is a technique that I never hear anyone talking about on here. I have had some luck on them in the past, but I enjoy slow trolling more

Oooohhh, but guys, just wait till October - November when those water temps start going down to the mid - upper 60s, and they get into that all-you-can-eat-buffet mood!! Grabbin' those poles to assure the hook set is probably gonna change to a lot of....grabbin' that pole to keep'em from snatchin'em out of the holder. I can't wait

Think "Big Minners"
