Default This Weekend

Went to Sardis yesterday so I'm gonna stay around the house and keep everybody happy this weekend.......Bite was a little slow at Sardis but managed to send about a dozen good fish home with my brother and threw about that many back including a huge and very slimy catfish that we brought in along side the boat around Clear Creek. Not sure how much he weighed but I'm sure he exceeded 3X my 4lb test..... brother told everyone that he was half as long the boat but I don't think the bass fishermen close to us believed him. Took the long needle nose and shook that one lose and let him swim back to the bottom of the lake, so no picture this time. One up for the power and durability of light lines and 11ft G Loomis noodle rods. Saw three of you guys flying around with the planers couldn't tell if you were doing any good or not but you sure were covering alot of ground. Hope everyone has a great weekend and catch a bunch of fish.

I'm gonna give sardis a try in the morning. What is a good depth to start at? As always, thanks for your great advice.

I caught most of my fish friday over 23-24 fow and the fish were scattered and suspended at different depths from 8 ft to 15 ft. in that water. It was the same Wendsday too. The bite was a little slow....as always there are a ton of factors they dictate when and how crappie will react during the course of the day.....just have to get out there and try. Should be a good day for it Sunday though....light winds and thats always a plus.

That was probably us with the planers. Yep, the bite was slow. We managed to catch close to 45 with only six keepers.

Got to the lake around 6:30 a.m. and it was way windier than forecasted. I was planning on spider rigging early with minnows then trying some of vhoustons new techniques he has shared with us. After getting on the water it was way to rough for me and my brother-in-law to spider rig so I decidied to go ahead with the cranks. We used Bandit 300's in white/chart.,bubble gum,hot pink, and baby bass. With the light line and the worm weight we did very good. Not alot of keepers, but still good numbers. We ended up with only 4 keepers and probably close to 30 overall. It was a great learning experiance overall nevermind the rough water. Thanks again vhouston and keep the good advice coming.

You aren't kidding! After seeing someone's boat get nearly disentegrated on the ramp and rocks, I decided it wasn't time to sink my little tonka-toy via the big swells...we wasted the day at the cutoff instead. Slimy, that wasn't you sideways at Beach pt was it? Scary stuff

Slimeyslab....glad you guys did well and it certainly didn't call for that kind of wind. It doesn't take alot of wind to really make our North Mississippi reservoirs rough; particularily Sardis. The crappie bite is always a little more sparadoic, and the smaller fish take over a bit in August and September, but if you catch the right day and time you can do quite well. This time of year I really watch the weather conditions, barometric pressure, and solunar tables a little closer than normal. I also concentrate on areas closer to the dam. I'm pleased some of you guys are experimenting with my trolling techniques and doing well. They are not for everybody but they do work.

No sbcpower it wasnt me, I started to launch at John Kyle but the wind was staight into the ramp , so we went on down to Engineers Point and put in. We did not have any trouble at all with the swells and trolled all the way down to just short of Holliday. It was by far the longest distance I have trolled Cranks and it was a blast. I have been very unsuccesful so far and even with the wind today we still produced fish. It was a litlle trickey when we would get multiples on with the wind. I still can't believe how rough it get's with just a little wind.

yea, we put the pontoon in at Beach Point at 6:00 am Sunday, and slowly made our way across the lake to Pat's Bluff and started trolling back towards the dam with the wind. Bite was slow and after the wind died down a little we tried some of the tracks where we have been doing well but not much better luck. we ended up catching 45 with only 10 keepers
