Question Crankbaits and Fall

How late in the year do ya'll pull crankbaits? Maybe a better question is at what water temp. do the crankbaits become less effective? This is my first year to pull crankbaits and am still learning but have caught more crappie in July than I ever have thanks to all the info from you guys.

It really depends on the water temp. As long as its at least 70-75, you should still be able to catch them. I was still catching them on cranks last October.

I am hoping they still are effective for at least a little while longer. It sure is easier not having to minnow up every time you get a bite. Water temps are still about 85 right now. Maybe they will hold up for a little while before we have to slow down...

With the exception of pitching docks and vertical jigging in some of my early and late season haunts......I'm either long lining crank baits or jigs, so I've had plenty of time on the water to experiment, and have caught fish in all four seasons trolling crank baits in the Mid-South. Fall can be one of the best times for this since they tend to feed in shallower water and the lower water levels usually make them a little easier to locate. I usually go to smaller crankbaits and pull a little slower with big results......some of the biggest crappie of the year will be caught chasing a crank bait in the fall, so don't hang up your trolling rods yet..... October and November can be extremely productive months.

I've pulled some through Dec and Jan - still got work to do on it,
but the results I've had went like: not a sniff several times,
and several times only two or three fish... BUT the times I caught
two or three, several of 'em have been 2 lbs, one of 'em over 3
