I guess I shoulda took the advice about staying inside yesterday. Fished 7 hours, and by 2:30, I starting getting cramps in my fingers, toes, and hamstrings.....all at once. And you probably know there's not much you can do about cramps quickly........body motor control ain't there. Absolutely no breeze. Done drank up at least 3 of them quart size Powerades. Never had nothing like that happen before. Pretty scary!!! Not worth it.

Been there and done that, sneaks up on you quick and last for days, i was told it gets your electrolytes all out of whack. I cant take this heat for long thats why i get there early and leave early. And i have an ice chest full of ice and lots of water. If i start getting warm my cool vest goes on,like having a/c.
If you have those cramps at night after you get home you can clamp down on your upper lip with your thumb and first finger and squeeze it. It sounds crazy but it will make those cramps in your leg go away. Not to the extent you were having but, how it works I don't know, an old ball coach showed us that years ago.
luvjign I would skip the Poweraid for straight up water on days like those. I can drink water by the GALLON and stay out in ANY hot conditions ALL DAY LONG. No water and it's a WRAP. No cokes, No sprites, Nothing but water. If I had a cooler full of EVERYTHING EXCEPT WATER on a 100 degree day I wouldn't even go knowing all those other drinks will make you sick in the sun.
Also if you eat lite the night before (no fried foods) a trip that is gonna be in the SUN all day and eat lite while out fishing I tend to do just fine and I'm a bigger guy who sweats like a pig.
Having coached in my younger days I learned a lesson or two about the heat......one gatorade or powerade will help replace electrolytes lost and then drink plenty of water to rehydrate. Too many electrolytes is about as bad as not enough. The smart thing is to stay out of the 100 degree heat....I only wish I could follow my own advice.

I just did what has always worked. The sports drinks have always kept me going, and curbed my thirst on them dog days. I guess there's some truth about too much electrolytes......the more I drank, the more I wanted......crazy. Guess I'll try to change my 100º+ heat-index-day liquid diet, and lean on the water more. Live and learn!

the key is to NOT curb your thirst. To keep on drinking that water. We're made of water...I''m telling ya, I'm going fishing in the morning and I have 3 gals of water already on ice just for ME. I might not drink it all but I will drink 1 gal with ease.
