Speaking of which, I heard on the radio at lunch about a guy in MS that set himself on fire while trying to steal gas. Aparently, the police got a report, went to investigate and when the guy crawled out from under a truck, he - on purpose - kicked over a can of gas and dropped a cigarette lighter on it. Said he did it in order to help him escape.
My first three thoughts were:
1) Dude has seen one too many action movies where an explosion created a diversion covering an escape.
2) Good. Thieves should all be set on fire.
3) I'd bet anyone on the net this dude couldn't spell diversion.
Things are looking up for MS. Earlier this week I heard that MS leads the nation in the lowester per capita credit card debt. And now we're right in the hunt for the Darwin awards. Now with torch setting out for a motor test, we should have a pretty good backup contestant too. LOL.
Wannabe, the story on the radio you heard is true. It happened in the city where I work. He and a buddy were stealing gas out of rental trucks and finally got caught (3:30 am). In the process of lighting the gas, he burned up two trucks. He and his buddy were both apprehended. And yes, they were from another state coming here to steal the gas, so I heard. You may be right, he probably can't spell diversion! TT
Ok, boat is rated for a 50 and the 75 is kind of scary. I eased into and jumped on plane pretty quick. Ran 46 on gps at 4900 rpm, I have a Bob's Machine whale tail. Doing a little fine tuning today and can't wait to get back to Whttington this afternoon ( limited out in 25 minutes yesterday morning).
Anyone else get a mental image of a crappie lunatic passing a 50K bass boat screaming at the top of his lungs "Eat this Bass Head". LOL. Maybe it's just me.
75 on a 50 rated boat? Torch, I'm not so sure that's a good idea for your transom. But, as long as you're at it.....4900 rpms sounds low. Think that motor wants to run in the 5800 range. If you're gonna keep that motor, you might consider over propping it slightly to keep from jerking your transom off when planing. 'Course, doing that is gonna make your motor lug at cruise which is not good for it either. In any event, I'd be careful standing on it from a dead stop.
Brother fine tuned it yesterday and wide open runs in the 5300 range. I went to make a turn yesterday running pretty fast and it got to skipping on me. Anyway I am very pleased with the performance.
I guess I'm gonna have to come over there and inspect this thing for you aren't I. I'm not sure, but I swear I remember that motor is meant to be run in the 5800 to 5900 range. I know some lower HP did top out lower though. Be sure to check your manual to see, cause I've always heard that propping for lower rpms is just as bad if not worse than running them above the red line.
