Im an Illinois guy headed to mississippi over thanksgiving.
Im staying near a place Called Trace State Park. They tell me its got some good crappie. I got a little 15 foot jon with a foot control trolling motor and 10 hp outboard. I got all the goodies but only 1 day on the lake. I dont want to waste it looking and would really really appreciate some advice!!!
I'm betting they'll be shallow by the time you get here. I remember last year I caught them in 3 to 5' with water temps as low as 50, but from memory, it seems like it was 60 degrees before they went shallower than 10'.
65 degree water here last saturday and if they were shallow, I never found them that day. My trouble now is that when they do go shallow, it's gonna take a chainsaw and a bush hog to cut a trail to get back to them. Flooded conditions right now in Grenada.

That was Davis where I did most of my crappie fishin at, been to Trace a
dozen or so but only a couple of good trips, later in winter.
Man, in the warmer weather skiers on that lake are dangerous

OK....Trace State Park is just 4 miles from my house. It is a 600 acre lake. Try fishing minnows with slip bobbers around the concrete drain structure over by the east end of the levy. To start with set your bobbers at 12 ft. If you do not get any hits then gradually move your bait up. Then you can follow the levy going west....it will take you through what we call the cut over to the fishing side ( trolling speeds only over there) continue going west and you will see a lot of standing timber in the water on the south side.....it is shallow.....runs from 8 ft. to 4 ft. or less in most places...jig fish and minnow fish around all the timber and stick ups. There is a bait shop on old hwy 6 where you can get minnows. You can also buy minnows in Tupelo ( Clarks Bait Shop), or Pontotoc ( Kidds Hunting and Fishing).
