Cool Big Balsam Lake (10-25-08)

Fished Big Balsam Lake with Doug P and Jerry E. There were a lot of fish below us but we experienced a tough bite and up keeping 16 in the 10-11 inch range. We also tossed back a number of smaller fish. One of them didn't go down right away and an eagle came out of nowhere and picked it up, farily close to the boat.

Weather was cool, windy, and water temp was at 49 degrees. Best baits were plastics (over minnows), once again. Small hair didn't do well.

I was thinking about heading out again this morning but it's currently 39 degrees with drizzle and snow in the forecast. Might be a good day to sight in the deer rifle.

I put off sighting in my rifle and ran up to the Rainy River. Caught a few walleyes with this 29 1/4"er being the best one of the afternoon. It was miserable in the boat but the good fishing made up for it.
