Wife and I spent the weekend at Yankee Springs SRA and fished Gun lake. Sat. was terrible windy and we had to seek shelter so we didn't even venture out into the main lake. Pretty much stayed in Robbins Bay. We found a lot of smaller blacks in 15-17 FOW. All C&R that day.
Sun. was a much nicer day. We ran over to the "humps" south of Orangeville Island and ran into some respectable males. Boy are they black right now. The spawn has got to be close. Wife got the chills so I took her back to camp and went back over to Robbins Bay again. Was pulling them up doubles and even had all three poles going one time. All those were the same smaller females.
Funny that the females are hanging near the shorelines, and the males seem to be out on the off-shore breaklines in deeper water???
Same pics are on the main board too.

Nice pics... Congrats on the catch!

Those are black beauties (pun intended). We've had strong winds here for days. I was thinking the crappies were all done spawning but maybe not. I may give it a shot in the morning if the winds are down. Thanks for posting the photos.

Interesting. The crappies I've been getting have a lot of golden yellow where your's are silver'white. I don't know how to tell males from females without looking inside so maybe it's a sex-related color difference. Our temps have been like a Yo-Yo. It's in the 60's during the days and we've had frost 3 nights in a row. This morning the grass is white again but the winds are calm so I'm going crappie fishing. :D

I agree how black the males are and a blast to catch, i made it to Robbins Bay one day one it was windy, did you notice at least the few i caught were smaller ones
got out for few hours got one keeper crappie bout 10 incher and a dozen or so decent rock bass, was windy at first but calmed down right at dark

Well it sounds like you at least had some fun. Anytime you can find fish is ok. Good job Don. Will see you next weekend.
